  1. In graphics, no. They cannot truly recreate something that is not there, but they can do an incredible job of interpolating from existing data.

Yeah, mine was a serious question as well. I don't know the answer.

  2. And really, bob Moses? http://www.dominorecordco.us/usa/news/12-02-15/bob-moses-all-in-all-compilation-available-april-21-watch-video-for-first-to-cry

Fuck these guys, get another name gottamn it, it's bad enough there was that other band called Air. Maybe they're good, I don't know, but fuck them for that name.

    Reminiscent of this: http://cecilmcbee.jp/

At least they could've had the dignity to call themselves Lonesome Dragon, right?

    Or Rakalam!

Any thoughts from other Record Day participants to my plan to actually visiting the two record stores in the area the weekend before?

I have no interest in the items that go on sale on the big day and don't want to fight crowds of middle-aged and older men, and at the same time I suspect that the stores would be loading up available stock in the racks in advance, so it's kind of an antique-show "early buying" opportunity. Of course they may not load up until the latter half of the week before but still ... easy parking and less of a wait for the listening stations sounds like a win-win to me.

In my experience, RSD orders arrive Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. We stocked Friday night after closing.

  3. Although I don't order often and the location is a bit hard to get to and/or find parking, they have always been very good to me all the way back to their older locations.

As far as stock, there is no jazz or improvisation actual store that I know of on the East Coast that is in any way comparable to what they offer.

SQUIDCO. Wilmington NC. I've been to both. SQUIDCO offers a very different experience.

  4. You may be surprised once you do to find out that it is the same crew of musicians.

I didn't want you to think the rest of the new record sounded like Rock And Roll Is Cold! If you have a turntable, the vinyl sounds wonderful. I haven't done an A/B comparison or anything official, but the mix is much different. Maybe it's the mastering. I don't know. Much much more sonic detail and stage than on Spotify, though I've probably listened to it on Spotify three or four times to the vinyl's once through. Same stereo.

Anyway, glad you are enjoying the music. Trey Pollard, who writes all of the string arrangements, is an incredible pedal steel and very inventive electric guitarist.

  5. That's kind of funny. I have a handful of friends who AREN'T into music that will call me from time to time to tell me that they were at Panera or you name it and they really liked the jazz that was playing. I remember one time specifically when a friend had a particularly good signal. I responded "Of course you like it. Everybody does! That's Herbie Fucking Nichols!" Result: iTunes purchase. He has at least one full album of Herbie Nichols, and probably no other jazz in his "collection." I did turn that same friend on to Nilsson does Newman though. I had a shot and I took it.

  6. Thanks guys! We texted back and forth. I think it was surreal for him to be watching himself on national television at 1am last night.

Here is a link to last nights performance:

Hard to find any similarities to the album they released on Clean Feed a few years ago!

They are smart guys, and great musicians. It is

probably not lost on anybody here that we have well-accomplished musicians playing a straight up twelve bar pop tune on Letterman in 2015!

If interested, I can link to a couple of other records that they have arranged and produced for Natalie Prass and Joe Westerlund.

  7. With his band Matthew E. White. Many of you may know them as Fight The Big Bull. This project stemmed from an LP that was released a couple of years ago called Big Inner. It was recorded to tape over two weeks to showcase the abilities that Spacebomb Records had to offer singers and songwriters: live rhythm tracks by the house band, horn arrangements, string arrangements, vocal arrangements all performed by Richmond VA musicians, recorded to analog.

The record actually took off, out-growing its original intention as a calling card with multiple pressings and larger label support, FTBB took hiatus, momentum grew. Last year was spent touring in support of Big Inner, recording a few records, and preparing for the second MEW album Fresh Blood. Fresh Blood was released last week to a very receptive music press and opportunities have stepped up yet another notch. Tonight, my little brother and his closest friends will be playing rock and roll (Paul Shaeffer guesting) on The Late Show With Dave Letterman.
