  1. I love reading about other people's passion for music. Very inspiring. Love this one myself and I'll go back to it now as a result.
  2. Today was a good day for vinyl. I got given the following: Jarmo Savolainen - self titled (Kompass Records) Clarles Lloyd - Charles Lloyd in Europe (Atlantic) Ritchie Cole - Some Things Speak For Themselves (Muse Records) Czeslaw Bartkowski - Drums Dream (Polskie Nagrania) And I bought the following for £1 each: Dave Brubeck - Greatest Hits (CBS) Jackson Five - Anthology 2LP (who cares) I also got given a stash of pop/rock/curio 7"s that I got my pick of before being sold off.
  3. I'm really not at all keen on forking out for more than the original asking price of a cd/lp/set as I don't really think the collector's market is a healthy one musically (clearly it is healthy financially). I also only buy things to listen to and see no point personally in owning an item of music that then remains untouched and unplayed. I have paid a little more on occasion, the one sticking in my mind is £20 for a mint vinyl, EX sleeve first pressing of Neil Young's Journey Through The Past double LP soundtrack, but that's really as far as I'll go. This might cause problems with A. Braxton, my latest obsession, so you might see me confessing to the ridiculous later on...
  4. If you like Live Dead I think Dicks Picks #4 from 1970 would be a good place to go next. The hour that is Dark Star-Alligator etc should be what your looking for. While not as heavy the third disc from Dicks Picks # 19 from fall 73 is very improvisational and possibly my favorite thing ever. Thanks, they will go down on the forever growing list.
  5. I have a trilogy set of Dead stuff, pretty dire mastering and sound but enough to show the music. There are 2 pretty poor and uninteresting country-pop records and an excellent jam album Live Dead. I like Live Dead enough for me to want to track down the double vinyl reissue with superior sound, and I'd quite like to check out some of the Dick's Picks releases as I hear you can get some brilliant improvy stuff there. I look forward to reading through this lot.
  6. Nice to see you made your way over stuartjewkes! Very cool. I've not heard the Braxton discs you mentioned, but it's a great period for him, I think -- mid- to late '80s. I still haven't received the "Vienna" disc I ordered to replace the MP3 version I have. Some sort of snafu with the seller being offline for a while. Maybe today. Ive sort of veered off into Ellington, Basie et al lately, but the appetite for Brax is always there. You really should check these 2 out pal, excellent stuff. Then again I get the feeling I'll think that about 90% of his releases! I hate it when you order something online and don't get it straight away. I'm very impatient and want it now now now! Nowt wrong with Basie and Ellington too!
  7. I've got a small collection of Braxton stuff, my two most recent additions being Six Monk's Compositions (1987) and Eugene (1989). The Monk cd is superb, pretty straight ahead and contained with his tone swinging between the full and the brittle. Eugene is a completely different kettle of fish with a 17 piece take on 8 compositions. Braxton conducts and plays alto sax throughout, and he really brings out the individual players within each piece. Real blissful stuff.
  8. Just listening to the first cd of Coltrane Complete Village Vanguard 1961 box, my favourite live jazz document by far. Dolphy blows me away every time.
  9. Hi all, new here after defecting from AAJ. Just thought I'd say cheers for pointing me to this excellent site, will let me keep an eye on the price of the few rarities that I own. Nothing special though, no holy grails yet!
