I thought Barr was from southern California, but I could be wrong (or maybe he moved?)
-
Barr came to my house once, while on a northern California buying trip. It didn't go well. The auctions I remember buying from were Dan Serro, Warren Hicks, (John?) Hozack, Lee Wall (mostly guitar LP's), and a guy named Calvin Johnson in Texas (who I think passed away). Also Euclid and Jazz Record Revival.

Gave the nod to Steve Davis

For me it's kind of a toss-up between JJ and Frank Rosolino. I love JJ, but since Rosolino isn't on the list, I had to vote "other" and give some props to Frank.

"definately" vs. "definitely"
Jim R replied to neveronfriday's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, YOUR a bit late, but I'll put YOU'RE complaint in too... Are you guys still hear? I definately thought this threat had drawn it's last breathe. If I read to much more of this, I think I might loose my mind. Their isn't much more too say when everybody let's they're pet peeves get the better of them. Especially if their really obsessed about it. In the passed, I always felt like I had to often past up opportunities to point out spelling errors, but this threat has ALOT of pointers! So, what would I advice? I think its' time too go back too are origional purpose hear- talking about music! If we get on each other to much, their could be a heavy prize too pay. Theirs my advise- and its free (I'm not in the bidness of selling advise). -

I think it's reasonable to complain/talk about chronic goofs like "definately", which almost seems to outnumber the appearance of "definitely". To some people (hey, we're all wired up differently), this can get kind of annoying. Not a big deal in the overall scheme of things, just annoying (kind of like seeing the names of jazz artists getting misspelled over and over, like "Kessell", "Vaughn", "Jordon", "Adderly", "Coltrain", "Blakely", "Hollyday", "Jasper", and of course, "Niels-Henning Øscar Peterson" ). Somebody misspelling "atrocities" or "especially" ( ) is less of an issue, really. (BTW, you get big points for correctly using the word "they're"!) -
I remember looking at his (mail order) auction lists years ago, and always pretty much just using them for reference material, because the starting bids were so steep.

To The Ivy League From Nat Cannonball Enroute Sophisticated Swing Cannonball's Sharpshooters I remember when that set came out, it was like "this is too good to be true". I really like JUMP FOR JOY also, and the strings date it was paired with ain't exactly chopped liver, either. Gil Evans' NEW BOTTLE, OLD WINE is another nice one.

Landmark released it before Riverside? I thought it came out in the U.S. in the late 60's (Riv 499). Anyway, that's interesting. The Vinson album was released around the same time as the other Landmark CD's mentioned above, with the same "Reissued material courtesy of Capitol Records, Inc." credit... Lon, thanks for the info (glad to hear it! ).

I can't remember which one I had, but I once bought one of those Glenn LP's with Osborne in hopes of hearing her. She was virtually nonexistent in the mix, and had no solos. To this day, I still wonder if I had some sort of "error" pressing...
-
Hans, I didn't say (nor did I mean) that I expected YOU to catch the error. I appreciated your input, BTW, I was just caught up in having some fun with couw.
-
Well... maybe he was just trying to get it over with. ...sorry, SORRY!
-
Some people have got better things to do than proofread threads and posts... Whatever, but I sometimes wonder if people actually read very carefully. When those titles were referred to as "obscure" and I went on to say they hadn't been in print since the 80's, I would have thought somebody might have said something sooner.

I think I'd go with Joe Sample, but I need more time to think back...

Don't make me take back my comment about your brain. Fantasy -> Milestone (not an OJC). hey, that was just a little stitch I dropped for you to pick up and restore some faith in your mental abilities It may be too late. Yeah, perhaps a poll to see which Landmark CD's I should replace with newer remasterings, despite the fact that I'd be buying the exact same music AGAIN.
-
I mentioned it earlier too.

ey! be happy man! Easy for you to say- your brain seems to be working.
-
check the links I posted earlier. The BN site mentions any bonus material Thanks. They do mention bonus material, but it's the same old same old bonus material that was on the Landmarks. Yeah, that's the C & C disc that came out on Milestone.
-
I don't know what's more surprising- that I overlooked these reissues, or the fact that it's taking so long for people to correct the erroneous statements made earlier in this thread. I guess when I see a CD in the racks that I already own, my eyes must gloss over or something. Any bonus material on these BN/Capitol reissues?

CLEANHEAD & CANNONBALL
-
Yes, but my memory sucks and I've never been one to closely follow the ownership battles over recordings. In this case it was something of a mess, because Fantasy did end up with the rights to some of the titles that came out on Landmark (like the Vinson). Somebody will enlighten us. Anyway, it's good to know that there are plans to release more. Besides TAKES CHARGE, AT THE LIGHTHOUSE, and CLEANHEAD & CANNONBALL, THEM DIRTY BLUES is the other title that I still have as a Landmark issue.
