  1. Again, new "Jazz aux Champs-Elysées" stuff to discover on Ina.fr: - New audio material by Toots Thielemans and Lucky Thompson (including a quintet featuring Bill Byers). - Videos from various TV shows produced by Jack Diéval. These include four-hands piano performances by Diéval together with Blossom Dearie and Kenny Drew, a fabulous Quintet with Woody Shaw and Nathan Davis, a quartet performance with Pearcy Heath and two stunning solo piano pieces by Duke Ellington himself!
  2. It seems that there is a lot more "Jazz aux Champs-Elysées" audio available now: Herb Geller Donald Byrd & Bobby Jaspar Kenny Drew Eric Dolphy Jean-Luc Ponty (over 2 hours, including duets with Svend Asmussen!) Oddly enough, some of these files are available at the Ina boutique, but do not appear when you type "Jazz aux Champs-Elysées" or the artist's name in the search field...
  3. Actually, this is not really Miles Davis recording the music to "Ascenseur", but rather Miles pretending to do so. In fact, the picture has been taken during a reconstitution of the session, shot for the TV show "Cinépanorama". You can see the full video here You can see very clearly that Miles' lips are not synchronized with the music, and they are no other musicians around him. Very beautiful pictures, though!
  4. The French Ina (Institut national de l'audiovisuel) just released a new CD with highlights from the radio show "Jazz aux Champs-Elysées". This show lasted from 1954 to 1974, but all tracks here were recorded between 1954 and 1959. It was produced by a pianist called Jack Diéval and featured a house orchestra (the "JACE All Stars"!) with the finest French jazz musicians, as well as the German SDR Big Band led by Erwin Lehn. And, of course, plenty of prestigious foreign guests such as Lester Young, Stan Getz, Lucky Thompson, Donald Byrd, Blossom Dearie... who are all represented on this CD. You can find the complete tracklisting and order it here (click on "plus de détails" for the tracklisting). It is also available at Amazon.fr, and even on iTunes (usefull to listen to excerpts). Except for the Chet Baker & Caterina Valente track (which is very rare though), I think all the material is previously unissued. More "Jazz aux Champs-Elysées" radio archives can be downloaded at Ina's website, with rare recordings by Eric Dolphy, Donald Byrd, Kenny Drew, Jean-Luc Ponty...
  5. Circle Quartet feat. Anthony Braxton, Chick Corea, Dave Holland and Barry Altschul. This is the video of the famous "In Concert" album released by ECM allmost 40 years ago! We knew the sound, now we have the pictures too!
  6. Jan Garbarek 1973 Paul Bley 1973 Gary Burton Stéphane Grappelli including a wonderfull duo with Duke! Lou Benett Joachim Kühn Enjoy!
  7. Hi, Here's a document which could be very usefull for all of you: it's an allmost complete index of all the jazz musicians that can be found on Ina.fr (sidemen are not included, though). INA_Musicians_Index.pdf The first page is about the videos, the second one about the radio sessions (but it seems that some of the audio material mentionned is not yet available on the site). It's taken from an INA press report available online. With the help of this list, I could find many other videos such as: Keith Jarrett 1969 Bill Evans Trio 1972 Ahmad Jamal Trio 1971 And there's a lot more to enjoy!
  8. Yeah, in fact, the Jimmy Smith DVD in series 4 is from INA (they have their logo on the back of the cover).
  9. Hi everybody, Great forum. Here are a few very rare videos I found on Ina.fr: Two Jeanne Lee & Ran Blake videos from 1963 And three amazing Herbie Hancock videos with the Mwandishi Sextet back in 1972 (click on the black and white pictures) Have fun!
