  4. My link article continues with link On the surface, 17-year-old Courtney Alvis looks like your everyday teenager. She's two days shy of her senior prom and testing a new do at the salon. But getting to this point hasn't been easy. "I have heard of leukemia but I wanted to make sure that was cancer. So I was like, "Are you telling me I have cancer?' and he was like, "It could be cancer,'" she said. And it was. At just 16-years-old and a junior at Hueytown High School, Courtney's life drastically changed. "I couldn't drive. I couldn't go to school or even go to the mall or out to eat because of germs," she said. And her junior prom? Her doctor said she could go but with a few more accessories than the norm. "I would have to wear a mask and rubber gloves and not touch anybody and that wasn't for me."
  5. Hispanic nations, the bad day is Tuesday the 13th (as "martes" was based on Mars, and he is the god not to argue with) Spanish and Latin equivalent that word came from Lunes = Moon(Luna) = lúnae Martes = Mars = martis Miercoles = mercury = mercurii Jueves = Jupiter = iovis or jovis Viernes = Venus = veneris Sabado = Saturn = sabatta which is "day of Saturn" Domingo = sun = dominica which is "day of Sun" in English, Monday = moon, Sunday = sun Saturday = saturn correspond to the latin origin but the other names were derived from the Teutonic gods equivalent to the Roman gods Mars= god of war = Tiu = Tuesday Mercury = swift god = Woden = Wednesday Jupiter = main god = Thor = Thursday Venus = goddess of love = Frigg = Friday

  8. Word of the day: Paraskevidekatriaphobia (n): a fear of Friday the 13th. are any of us unparaskevidekatriaphobic?
  9. after a few evening drinks, downtown at dusk can cast a spell where one sees that not noticed before, things that aren't really there, or may only last the blink of a shutter, sort of like your and my lives. the giant reflections of the sunset on the north walls of the library annex are striking, and seem so real. enjoy. lilac wine
  10. i completely agree, claude. the first kraftwerk, autobahn, was a knockout. after that, they went pop and never fulfilled their potential.
  11. My link If you’ve never been to the Allen Room for Jazz at Lincoln Center, the first thing that strikes you is the 50 x 90-foot, floor-to-ceiling glass wall behind the stage/bandstand that offers a breathtaking view of Columbus Circle, the southwest entrance to Central Park, and the Manhattan skyline. At night, the atmosphere possesses an ethereal-like quality so perhaps on the evening of March 31, the spirit of Luis Russell was proudly gazing through the glass at his daughter Catherine, who was honoring his memory by singing the jazz and blues numbers he and Louis Armstrong transformed into American standards. 12. a german reader remarks "Some German regions had more snow for Easter than they had for Christmas last year."
  13. ...such depressing april weather.... ..........makes me want to stay inside and keep warm. the wasteland t.s. eliot APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire, stirring Dull roots with spring rain. Winter kept us warm, covering Earth in forgetful snow, feeding A little life with dried tubers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tqK5zQlCDQ
  14. joachim, yes, yes. what a wealth of masters we can give proper homage. thank you.
  15. "But probably 75% of my listening is to jazz/classical/world music, and I have virtually no one to discuss this with in my real life (as opposed to the Big O)" no one in my area speaks my musical language, shares my tastes, or performs my music. big O reassures me that i'm not a total outlier.
  16. would some of us agree that many of our particular musical tastes are indulged and developed for social reasons?
  17. thx. i'm thinking that several famous musicians may be hiding their deep musical talents, skills, and loves. in today's world with its mass tastes(?), those items are albatrosses, not to be displayed.
  18. does jaki byard have an equal, or even a near equal?
  19. it didn't take ozzie very long to talk out of his ass in miami, telling the world how much he loves fidel castro. ozzies antics insensitive antics are hilarious to me, but a serious matter to cuban exiles and their families living in the u.s.
  20. does music you loved 20, 30, or 40 years ago still sound as good to you? if it still sounds fine, is perhaps familiarity or association the reason? if it doesn't sound as good, is it because the familiar, out of style or acceptance, dead, or frozen bores you? my taste hasn't changed much, but i often overrate music i'm hearing for the first time.
