  1. I've just noticed that Fresh Sounds have just released a "three-on-two" by this pianist:

I must admit I've never heard of him, or heard anything by him ..... can anyone recommend (or not) this.

  2. Hi,

I just placed an order from an online Japanese music website and they are asking me to pay the Japanese tax on my order.

I live in Canada and in all the years I've ordered from Japanese vendors I've never had to pay the Japanese tax...has their exemption laws changed?

As far as I know only Japanese residents have to pay the tax?

That can't be right. I'm always buying stuff from Japan and I've never been asked for that. Which website are you referring to?

  3. I recommend cdjapan.

Me too, Blue John is in the region of £13-£14 from cdjapan including airmail shipping to the UK.

Mine's coming from an Amazon UK seller (in Switzerland) for a tenner.

    MG

Not any more, it's gone up to £14 plus shipping..... so it's probably cheaper from CDJapan now.

  4. Yes, I noticed this when I was looking on the Cherry Red website for information on the new Annie Ross re-issue "Loguerhythms". They really do take care with their re-issues and this is very good value; four albums for £11.

There's also this two-fer coming out from BGO next month:

    ... a veritable Burton-fest!

Just saw this at Amazon, when I was buying a book.

Anyone who hasn't got those original Prestige albums is in for a REAL treat with these four!

    MG

I have the last two, not the first two. Do you think the first two are in the same league?

MG is a better source on this subject than I, but I'll just say yes - especially Out of the Forrest.

A note of caution...The music on some of the other sets in this series has come from very dodgy sources. One set contained music from mp3 files, presumably grabbed from somewhere on the Internet.

You may be lucky with this set... on the other hand you may not.

  6. This is an odd example, but I still think it's really low for labels to sell OOP items for inflated prices. Mosaic never does this. Eremite, for one, does.

Yes, I e-mailed Eremite a while back asking whether they still had any copies of their Jemeel Moondoc CD, "Revolt of the Negro Lawn Jockeys" available and was offered one at a very inflated price. I ended up getting one through Discogs.
