  1. I find the "do nothing" option is usually best for this sort of thing... let someone else iron out the problems. By the time everyone is using Windows 10 I'll either be dead or using a new computer which has Windows 10 preloaded.

I'd still be interested in learning what advantages there might be to moving over to Windows 10 though.

  2. My wife has taken over as the BBQ chef in our house, too.

At first I felt emasculated....then I had one of her steaks. Ooo...buddy. Seriously good and grilled to perfection.

Suddenly, being the seasoning cook and prep dude wasn't so bad anymore.

Though she does "allow" me to do the Tri-Tip. I still have the magic touch for that. :tup

I never got past the "filling the dishwasher" phase..........

  3. I don't think those other tracks have ever been issued on CD.

Neither discogs nor Dewey Redman's discography at jazzdisco.org show any evidence of a CD release.

Of course, the info on those sites is sometimes incorrect...

    Thanks, that's what I thought.

I wonder why all the performance weren't pulled together for the CD reissue?.... (too long for a single CD?)

  4. Thanks for the heads-up, Bev....just added it to my "to get" list.

I wonder if John Jack is still running Cadillac Records.... that's the second recent release on Cadillac in twelve months following the Johnny Dyani double CD last year.

  5. By the way, if any of you who would like to hear Mike play elsewhere in the country have any influence with the people who run your local venues, please do use that influence.

What local venues?.......The one in Darlington closed several years ago due to government cuts and the building itself was sold recently so there's absolutely no chance that it will ever open again.

My "local" venue is now The Sage in Gateshead.... a hundred mile round trip. I'm surprised Mike hasn't been offered a gig there, by the way.

  6. Westbrook Blake wonderful tonight in Bath. The version that was recorded and videoed a couple of years back. I had doubts before I heard it - given how important the reeds were on the late-70s disc I couldn't imagine how an accordion and violin could substitute. The recording won me over instantly and tonight confirmed its success. All three soloists - Billy Thompson, Karen Street and Steve Berry were superb. Phil Minton was incredibly powerful in his pieces and Kate Westbrook very effective in hers - this piece doesn't encourage her to overdo it. Mike played that very distinctive minimalist piano to perfection. And special praise to the choir who were a joy.

Excellent sound too - rarely the case in a church. My second favourite Westbrook piece - glad to have finally heard it live.

Thanks for that review Bev, I am sorely jealous and just wish Mike would play about 100 miles further East!

...and a further 200 miles North......

  7. This Forrest Westbrook dude had an album on Revaltion which I was not aware of until now: http://www.discogs.com/Forrest-Westbrook-Jim-West-Paul-Ruhland-Dick-Wilson-This-Is-Their-Time-Oh-Yes/release/5441490

Has anybody heard it? Revelation had its quirks, but putting out bullshit was not one of them.

In fact, didn't they put out a later/latter Carmel Jones album themselves?

    Indeed they did!

    So, all things considered...interesting!

We need to get Jonathan on the job........
