  7. Mendelssohn - Violin Sonata Op.4 David - Piano Trio No.2
  8. I am a sucker for slow or medium tempo blues. The tune "Soul-Lo Blues" on this very good CD fits the bill perfectly. Clifford Jordan shows some influence from Sonny Rollins in his fine solo. Art Farmer and Sonny Clark follow with terrific solos too.

  13. I readily admit to being an Oscar Peterson fan. However I would not want to listen to him play all the time. The devices scale patterns he uses a fair amount does not make him unique. Many jazz musicians, both pianists and those on other instruments have devices and patterns I can hear on a number of their recordings. Larry refers to Jimmy Rowles who I greatly admire. Rowles and Oscar are in many ways polar opposites within the modern jazz piano realm. O.P. plays a lot of notes, likes to often play very uptempo while Rowes, tends to go in a different direction. One of the things that makes jazz such a rich listening experience for me is the large variety of styles, and approaches, to the music. That means, for me, that I can get great enjoyment from listening to Horace Silver, Barry Harris, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Sonny Clark, Jimmy Rowles, Bud Powell, and numerous others each bring their own individuality to what they play.
  14. I admit to being very surprised by the negative comments on Dexter Gordon's Prestige recordings. The Panther is one of my very favorite of all of Dexter's records/CDs. others I like a lot include : Generation The Jumping' Blues The Tower of Power More Power Tangerine Ca'Purange Of the seven CDs I have mentioned drummer Alan Dawson only plays on one of them, and interestedly it happens to be on The Panther, my favorite. The drummers on these various sessions include Billy Higgins, Roy Brooks, Tootie Heath and Louis Hayes. Pianists include Barry Harris, Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones, Cedar Walton, and Wynton Kelly. Bass players are Sam Jones, Buster Williams, Stanley Clark, and Larry Ridley.
  15. Mozart - Concertone in C K.190 - Oistrakh /Oistrakh - Berlin Philharmonic Beethoven - Piano Quartet Op.16 -
  16. Haydn - Op.54/1 Mozart - Symphony No.36
  17. I am not a fan of electric piano , with a very few exceptions. Manny Boyd does not do much for me. So am a bit disappointed as I am a big time Cedar Walton fan. Have almost all his recordings, but will pass on this one.
