  1. From the RedHotJazz group:
  2. I posted your query/suggestion in the RedHotJazz list... But no replies so far.
  3. Thanks for the clarification, ValerieB. I received this from Steve Voce via the duke-lym list.
  4. Clark Terry's wife Gwen has posted the latest news:
  5. I'll be in Vienna for the "expanded" weekend. I would appreciate any recommendations on jazz spots: jazz clubs, concerts, CD/LP jazz stores... Many thanks in advance! Agustín
  6. I don't recall posting the above, but I have to wonder why I am now—six years later—writing notes for the complete King Jazz boxed set (5 CDs) Have I entered the twilight zone? Anyway, the release of that box set, and your writting of the liner notes is really good news!
  7. Just received an email from David Sager announcing this upcoming reissue of the complete output of the Wolverines, including the Jimmy McPartland sides: The Complete Wolverines: 1924-1928 Coming April 10 Archeophone Records website
  8. 'Bout time SWR radio did something with their "Treffpunkt Jazz" and other jazz concert performances that have taken place at their premises for decades. Just checked their website but so far only the big, bigger, biggest names have been graced with a release. Whereas they could have done SO much to further the discography of German jazz greats (or "Eurojazz" in general) too. Thanks anyway for mentioning this label. I totally subscribe your opinion! Meanwhile, I'll order the Benny Goodman feat. Anita O'Day as well...
  9. Duke Ellington - Liederhalle Stuttgart 6.3.1967 (JazzHaus)
  10. Keith Jarrett
  11. Alberta Hunter Headhunters Radiohead
  12. Amazing find! Uptown always surprises us with incredible discoveries, properly treated soundwise and with extensive research that turns into excellent and massive liner notes with plenty of graphical documentation. :tup
  13. Amazing stuff, Chris! Thanks for sharing. I hope that, in following chapters, he will tell something about his stays in Spain in 1926 and 1929 as part of his Europeans tours. I am doing extensive research on the chronology and details of this part of his life through the archives of several Spanish newspapers and radio stations. BTW, have you contacted the Jazz Oracle troupe? They're preparing a Sam Wooding compilation with his European recordings and your interviews could be an essential research tool.
  14. I will check my copy tonight!
  15. Do you have any proof? The guys at the TAS don't, either. Listening to the stupidity in itself yesterday (I mean Prudhomme, of course) made me definitely sick. OK, I will say it. I'm not impartial this time. On one hand, because Contador is one of my personal sports heroes, up there with Rafa Nadal and Pau Gasol. On the other, because I have some inside information, that makes me strongly believe in his innocence.
  16. This is a f***in' shame, period!, when "others whose name I won't mention" are free of charges.
  17. More on Blind Willie Johnson: The soul of a man: Who was Blind Willie Johnson?
  18. Complete article at: Jas Obrecht Music Archive
  19. Wonderful photographs, brownie!
  20. Here is a copy of an e-mail from Scott E. Brown, the biographer of James P. Johnson. He seeks information from fans or musicians who saw JPJ in live performance and would like to include personal anecdotes of those performances in his 2nd edition: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I am the biographer of James P. Johnson (A Case Of Mistaken Identity- The life and Music of James P. Johnson, Scarecrow press and Rutgers Inst. Of Jazz Studies, 1987). I am wondering if you ever saw James P. in your travels. I am working on a second edition of my biography and making one more effort to find people who saw him play, especially musicians. Thanks so much. Scott E Brown >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Not sure, but perhaps some of the older forum members may be able to help, even if coming from second-hand sources. Please, do post your replies here or send me an email to ekebbbapg@yahoo.es Best regards, Agustín Pérez Madrid
