  2. I've got the four disc Membran here (and have an inlay with info handy if anyone needs it):

Crappy design as usual, and it's missing plenty of tracks, too ... but still nice to have.

As for the 10CD set: the Verve one had lots of previously unissued tracks that are hence PD only fifty (or seventy or Disney-Cliff-Maccartny) years after the release of the Verve box ... not sure if Membran is bothered by that, but that may explain some differences?

You're no doubt right. DOes the Verve box include the Sonny Criss/Jaws JATP session of 12 Oct 1951, first issued on Pablo?

  3. All that stuff is surely PD in Europe now. I dare say one of the Euro companies doing boxes might reissue the stuff. I think I wouldn't mind the JATP set for a few quid.

I've got the 10CD JATP set on Membran very similar but not exactly what's on the Verve set and of course no personnel details or notes, but a little searching on the internet gets you all the necessary info. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Thanks for the link, Ray - just ordered it. See you reviewed it there :)

  4. All this material HAS been released on LP & CD. This is just putting it all together. A worthy thing to do but I could just shuffle my Mobley rips around on the hard drive and get a digital version. So, no real point in BN issuing a CD, I'd guess.

They've done a LOVELY job on the sleeve, I will say.

  5. TRACK 9:
    The Street Preacher Part 1 & 2 (Ge-Lu Records, rec. 1987)

    GENE LUDWIG

    Gene Ludwig, organ

    Tony Janfione Sr guitar

    John Smith percussion

This was one I really figured someone would get. Its the 45 that Gene Ludwig self-produced and was offered as a bonus on his posthumous release of Cole Porter tunes on Big O Records.
From the thread about the CD, I believe MG ordered the disc but couldn't be sure if he ordered the 45 too. Mike Weil made specific mention that he would order the 45 too, so I was expecting he would get it. And I really figured someone else would have ordered the bonus 45 too and had a shot at recognizing it.
Oh well, not universally loved but not loathed either, I have no problem with it, electronics or no.

You're right, Dan, and I did order the 45, but I haven't received it yet. My credit card hasn't been charged, so I guess Jim's got stock problems.

  6. Thanks for that, Jim.

A little digging and I found he was actually pictured on the inside gatefold of Jimmy McGriff's 'A bag full of soul' (Solid State). Now, can I find a pic to put up here? Oh, I can upload it.
