Instead of GG it has Kenny Burrell on guitar, with Frankie Dunlop taking the gorgeous Pola's place (but still playing well). Great session. Must think about upgrading it to CD. Also available, but don't get too excited, is this Gloria plays on 1 track "Come get to this". Of deleted material; If you see a copy of Nat Simpkins "Cooking with some barbecue" going second hand, that has some great Gloria (and some great Russell Malone). MG

I am a newcomer to both boards, having started only in the past year on both. I don't understand the big differences or issues. Both boards seem to be full of very knowledgable, cordial jazz lovers. I find both boards to be very pleasant experiences, and I have learned a lot from each board. This is all in marked contrast to negative experiences with that other board, which shall remain nameless. What am I missing--why should I feel tension and a certain degree of contentiousness as I go from Organissimo to AAJ and back again? Me too, Hot Ptah. Neither of us should feel tension as we slip from her to there and back again. And I don't. But there are some threads on AAJ in which Mike bans people from mentioning Organissimo, or putting links here. He's sensitive because he's in AAJ for the money; that's how he earns his crust. OK, I can understand that. And it doesn't make any difference to me. I go where I want, read what I want, say what I want. And I feel good about it; here and there. MG

I just can't DO that. I've got to open each new one up and play it as soon as I can; usually when whatever I'm playing when the mail arrives has finished. The excitement of getting something doesn't exist for me without hearing it. Of course, it depends on how many I buy in one go. I bought about a hundred one day in West Africa and it DID take me a while to listen to them all. MG

It’s Gloria Coleman's birthday today. Don't know how old she is; it doesn't give the year in AMG. Anyway, happy birthday Auntie Gloria! This is what Pete Fallico has to say about her. http://www.doodlinlounge.com/Stories/Coleman.html I was at this gig in Newark in late '96. There was a lady playing electric piano; with a bass line that grabbed me. I thought, "this has GOT to be Gloria Coleman", so I went up to her afterwards and asked. And it was Gloria. She is a very straightforward, business-like lady, but spared me some time to talk. She seems pretty modest; surprised to find people who knew of her work. She talked about how pleased being recognised made her; Pete Fallico had had her on his radio show and surprised her by playing a record she was on that she thought no one would have known about. She was playing a little Casio keyboard, which she tied onto a suitcase trailer to move about. That impressed me; no false airs to Gloria, just do what's needed. When you listen to her play, that's what you get, too. She swings and wails. What more is needed? Happy birthday Auntie Gloria! MG
