Can someone id the genre of spam from this sample :
I've been trying to nail down the genre of jazz that I enjoy. It seems that there are so many different genres that I can't identify the ones I prefer. These links lead to a "hold music" site. They contain audio samples of jazz tracks. If someone can help me identify what style of jazz they are, I might be able to narrow down what jazz bands I might prefer.http://www.americaonhold.com/thedemos/showSearch?style=Jazz

There might be a market for another CD of this material if it had improved sound and included all 26 pieces played that evening . As it is , I doubt the four bonus tracks of 1964-era Dorham on the job in Oslo with a local rhythm section will be enough of a sweetener for most .

Both Bruyninckx and Lord list the recording location for this record as 'New York' , and the date as 'August 16 , 1956' , but a contemporaneous Gramophone review lists the location as 'Chicago' , and the date as 'July 1956' , info presumably gleaned from the liner notes . Lending support to the latter location and date , the July 22 , 1956 edition of the Chicago Tribune has a notice about Elliott's week-long stay at the Modern Jazz Room (located upstairs at the Preview Lounge) . I say 'lending support' , only because fake live albums are not unknown , and the discographers' August 16th date has the preciseness of a studio log entry . On the other hand , I'm not aware of any examples of fakery from ABC-Paramount (e.g. Billy Taylor At The London House is a genuinely live recording afaik) . Therefore , unless someone knows otherwise , the discographers are wrong on this Elliott recording . In addition , the discographical entry for this recording should be amended to note that Elliott sings on I Only Have Eyes For You .

If you read that thread you'll find some general information about test pressings which is what I assumed you were after . If you're questioning whether test pressings were made of sessions that weren't issued , the answer is 'yes' .

The booklet ( or at least my booklet ) for the Verve Elite Edition CD The Modern Jazz Society Presents A Concert Of Contemporary Music is screwed up . A section of Gunther Schuller's notes is missing , and a section is repeated .
You're right. I bought this used and the dude that previously owned it had two booklets; one that was defective, which he wrote 'error', and the other one ' corrected'.
Guess I missed the recall notice . So what is it exactly that I'm missing then ?
Funny you should ask. I bought this used at a store from some guy who was clearly OCD. When I looked inside the sleeve, the dude held on to both books, one was fine and the other he wrote in small letters on the back "bad printing". No idea where or what he meant because there's no indication of what's wrong. The colors and print looks the same so I have to guess that there's something wrong with the punctuation or grammar.
Just so we're clear , are you saying that the booklets you have are without the narrative repetition and lacuna found in the booklet I have ?

I'd also recommend Nat's 'You, Baby' which has a similar feel to 'Calling Out Loud'.
As much as I like those two , I think it's fair to point out that there are no extended tracks on those albums ; longest tracks are about six minutes , with many three to four minutes .

Jimmy Smith is given composer credit for Motorin' Along on the original side two label of Home Cookin' , as well as in the liners . I know McGriff and Smith were old Philly buddies , so if Motoring Along on Skywalk is the same tune , then it could be McGriff's I suppose , but absent further evidence I see no reason to doubt Smith's authorship .
I recall that someone on the board can look stuff up at some copyright sourse, but I don't know who it
At the U.S. Copyright Office I found this .
Thanks Chas. I don't fully understand what it is, but it looks like Smith was claiming copyright in 1990 on a tune for which no entry was found, which I assume would have been the case if there were copyright claims from before 1978, because that's the earliest date of the database.
I read it as stating that the registration of 1990-11-05 is a renewal of Smith's original 1962-01-11 copyright .

Another CD where the programming listed on the cover/booklet is utterly different from the sequence on the disc itself , is the 2003 edition of Michel Legrand's Legrand Jazz . Despite appearances , the programming on the 2003 disc is in fact identical to the 1986 CD edition .
Even more sleuthing is required to make sense of Paul Moer's Del-Fi recording , The Contemporary Jazz Classics . Here , the covers of both the CD and the original vinyl have a track sequence which in no way matches the actual sequence . I think I've figured out the correct sequence on this one , though don't ask me what the unrelated live Moer track at the end of the CD is called or is doing there !

Had one of those last night and wish I hadn't. Earth was being attacked by apparently unstoppable swarms of insects (locust-like, but they also had the ability to directly harm human beings with stingers and such) that may or may not have been controlled by intelligent aliens...
Too bad Alfred Hitchcock isn't around anymore; he could make a great movie out of this!
