  1. Hello! The interview was excellent and very informative. You can listen online here.
  2. Thanks! The station manager said he'd record it for me. If he does - I'll post it over on Podomatic and post the link here.
  3. Hello! Just figured I'd let Doug Carn fans know I'll be interviewing him this Tuesday Jan 10th at 5:30pm eastern on WFCF St. Augustine. It's an iHeart station so anyone in the US can listen here. We'll discuss his early career from the rare Savoy trio release, his legendary recordings on Black Jazz, his recent releases including "My Spirit" and upcoming tour dates. Carn tracks will be interspersed throughout the show starting at 3 eastern, and particularly just before the interview around 5:15. Finally, the 4th hour of the show will feature a bunch of soul jazz organ releases from the 60's - 90's I got for Christmas including Jimmy McGriff, Charles Earland and Larry Young. Have a great day! Kenny MacKenzie Jazz Director WFCF
  4. Palm Coast Jazz interviews Ormond Beach resident Gers Yowell - whose apartment jam sessions in 1950 eventually became the Charlie Parker album "Apartment Sessions". Gers lived through the big band & bop eras all the way through to today's contemporary jazz; and at age 88 still plays and loves new music. Gers reflects on Bird, his own youth, Zoot Sims, life in NYC as a jazz musician in 1950 and much more. What a life! palmcoastjazz.podomatic.com
  5. Hello - just a quick note/update on the "Concept" cd. I recently did an interview with Gers Yowell, the sax player on the album. He goes into some depth about Joe and the recording sessions. You can hear the podcast at palmcoastjazz.podomatic.com. Gers is a friend of mine, and he's very interested in somehow getting this album back out on the market. He was supplying CDBaby with copies for a while, I believe. Gers no longer has copies. No one yet knows why CDBaby dropped the album, and no one knows how to get in touch with Joe, if he's still alive. Gers is pretty sure that Joe owns the sound recordings, so it's just a matter of getting permission from him or his family. I will keep you posted on developments. In the meantime you can hear 2 selections from "Concept" on the podcast, and an uninterrupted track on our first podcast. Regards - Kenny MacKenzie
