  1. Saw this code in another thread -- M8C15

    Expires today, 2/3 off, free shipping, triple music points.

    Nabbed the Granz Jam Sessions set and the Debussy & Ravel, Orchestral Works conducted by Jean Martinon. $23.99 ea. Nice! $4.80 and $3.00 per disc, respectively.

    Drat, the Granz is listed in my account as "Temporarily Out of Stock."

  3. I tried Audacity, but it doesn't seem to do the track-separating thing.

    * Highlight track

    * File -> Export Selection.

    Is this correct? Wouldn't I have to separate the tracks first before exporting them? Also, it doesn't give options to export in either aiff or mp3.

    Audacity exports mp3 if you have the LAME .dll file.

  4. Yeah, and the extended "I Hoid it Through the Grapevine" ;) always gets cranked up in my car. In fact, I hate it when the radio doesn't play the whole thing! (There used to be a time when they did!)

    Same here -- 12 minutes of delight!

    I once heard that a station in Cali was changing formats and the stunt they opted for was to play the long version of I Heard it Through the Grapevine over and over for days. I could hang with that. :rsmile:

  5. What did you get for your extra set?? :rolleyes:

    I wish I had an extra set. I wish I had gotten one of them. Their site was down when I tried to order the 69 fillmore set on a Friday, and the next Monday, they were sold out. Man, was I steamed. I still don't know why they insisted upon making it limited. Seems to go against what the band is about. I bet it would have sold out at 20,000, even.

    It was simply a bad guesstimate on their part. No Dick's Pick had sold 10,000, and they thought along the lines that this was a very expensive Dick's Pick, so they honestly believed 10,000 would be more than plenty. They just didn't see the demand at all.

    And now they're stuck to their word as far as it being limited, at least for awhile. I'm guessing at some point either through a download, or perhaps if something like Blu-ray becomes the more common physical format (if such a thing exists) that they'll reissue it. I own a Bob Marley Songs of Freedom boxset that is limited (#4038) in a long box that was remastered & reissued in a smaller package.

    I hear the last few Dicks Picks didn't sell at all, considering the quality of those picks 31, 32 I am not sure if the guesstimate was off or not. I am not sure at the time of the availability of lossless SBDs for those shows. Winterland is pretty well circulated so it will be interesting to see how it does. There seems to be a lot of heads who think every show should be free.

    I am willing to pay, for sure. Why are they hell-bent on keeping it a limited edition? How about a clearly marked second edition?

    So, what I was hoping to do is somehow get one of those 69 Fillmore sets. And not for the $300+ that they seem to go for on ebay. :eye:

    I got the three-disc distilled version from Rhino, but it ain't the same. :(

  7. I've considered doing it alphabetically, but every time I start, I usually get distracted before I'm done with 'A'. Got to Louis Armstrong once, but that sent me off on a Jelly Roll Morton kick for awhile, and then I skipped back to early some early Ellington.

    It just occurred to me that I should consider organizing the music chronologically -- that might give me a fighting chance! :blink::)

    I did that once. A to Z. Collection was about 700 titles at the time, and it took about three months. It was part of a buying hiatus several years back.

  8. I think Evan Parker is great. The circular breathing thing can be a bit much after a while, with that many notes coming at you, but what he is doing with it is quite something. To me, it sounds like he is continuing the tradition from Coltrane on both soprano and tenor.

    A real joy is his multitracked effort, Time Lapse, on Tzadik. Odd label for that one to land on, but it leaves me breathless.
