  1. Not unexpected; he'd been ill for some time. Very sad. As a solo artist he was never one of my favourites but his influence within and beyond folk was astounding. RIP
  2. Seemed like an inclusive sort of chap. Despite working in the rarefied world of contemporary classical he did his Kevin and Lol things, played and arranged for Mike Oldfield a fair bit and did lots of work with amateurs and kids.
  3. Might be known to modern classical buffs. Will certainly be fondly remembered as a distinctive orchestrator on 70s rock records and as a member of Kevin Ayers' Whole World. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/oct/04/david-bedford?newsfeed=true Never twigged he was Steuart Bedford's brother (the latter orchestrated some of Britten's works). As the obituary makes clear, there was a strong Aldeburgh connection. RIP.
  4. You really know how to live the Jazz Life don't you, sidewinder!
  5. Everything's... Why do you think the Romans gave up at that point?
  6. Very good. And almost as good, this link underneath:
  7. We are now confirming the stereotype that English people love to talk about the weather..... Tune into tonight's JRR on the BBC replayer and another great British topic lies in one track. Django Bates' 'The Importance of Boiling Water' with instructions how to make a proper cup of tea.
  8. The music was just as silly!
  9. Nuts - especially the way that around 6.00 it suddenly turns from blazing to dark and cool. Not good for kids in classrooms! 'Sir, it's too 'ot to wok.'
  10. Well, if were doing French translation: Robert Wyatt's new band in the early 70s; his previous had been Soft Machine which translates into French as "Machine Molle".
  11. That's the way to do it! Graham Collier - "Coals to Newcastle" Neil Ardley - ' 'Ardly Jazz, Nearly Minimalism' Alan Barnes and Wallace Roney "Birth of the Spitfire"
  12. Much more interesting - what album titles did they miss: Tippett Over The Edge Garbarek on the Highway Surman in Surinam The Kenny Wheeler Octet - Eight Wheeler
  13. Not sure if this has appeared before: The music is good - can't imagine the cover would have wooed any unsuspecting passer by.
  14. I hate album titles with apostrophes at the end. Won't have them in the house.
  15. No, not 'Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands'. The Welsh Dylan. http://www.resteamed.com/cdrelease.htm#rsj111 Typically grumpy 'interview' in Jazzwise. This one seems more like the 70s remake of UMW with narration.
