All the Japos are great..nice to hear the band so well recorded. I love the cover on "improvisations" too..
-
Masahiko Sato "penetration" (Toshiba, white label promo). Original issue in the box cover...an awesome record!
Joe Henderson "inner urge" (blue note, NY USA stereo ear) I love all of Henderson's Blue Notes but this would easily be one of my favorites.

"The living music"
"nipples"
"Pakistani pomade"
"baptized traveller"
"synopsis" (Howard riley)
"fragments" (icp 5)
"stalks" (Steve Lacy)
"karyobin" (sme)
"speed and space" (Masahiko Togashi)
"Nana" (Edward Vesala)
those spring to mind as some key records but there are tons more!

Masahiko Sato "belladonna" (finders keepers reissue). Finally heard this as I was never keen on dropping $500+ on an Italian original since I was a bit skeptical about the music quality. It's cool, but I'm sure glad I never did sink cash into an original as it does have a bit of that 70s soundtrack cliche vibe to it

A classic; those Odeons are good sturdy pressings. My "les stances.." is a Japanese Odeon because my American Nessa pressing was as thin as paper like those dreaded RCA dynaflex pieces of crap!

Discogs has lots of copies for sale in the $20+ range

Yes sick indeed especially if my wife knew what I paid for it

Good grief

Masahiko Sato & Soundbreakers "amalgamation" (Liberty, Japan red vinyl promo)

With the exception of my OPPO player and Anthem amplifier; I've bought all my stereo gear second hand...although I did buy an OEM tonearm upgrade for my second hand systemdek IIx table. Anyway my point is a good system can be hand via exploring the second hand market. Rich audiophiles don't tend to care about getting top dollar for their 2 year old gear when they upgrade to the latest and greatest!

Tonight's playlist:
Tina Brooks "true blue" (music matters 33rpm)
Joe Henderson "In'n'out" (blue note ny USA stereo ear)
Up next:
Kiyoshi Sugimoto "live at Mingos"
(elec, Japan)

Superb album! I paid a princely sum for this record about 20 years ago but it was in archive condition and worth every penny! Would love to see the film someday; I didn't know Barre was actually in it..
-
Well he plays on the whole album and two of his compositions make up the entirety of side two! Well worth buying and pretty cheap too..
-
John Patton "soul connection" (Nilva). Thanks Bhreandain for the recommendation! Awesome album with Grachan Moncur III.

In Vancouver, BC a place like that would cost easily 2-4 million!

yeah, but how does one know "brilliant" if there isn't any "decent/solid" to compare it to?
I just heard the sound of one hand clapping in a forest ;)

Oops yes I meant HMV.
I don't think "matrix" was ever reissued on CD though..this vinyl sounds much nicer then my crappy catalyst reissue I got rid of years ago.
"electrum" didn't knock me out when I first got the reissue CD that came out some years ago; but repeated listenings have rewarded me..I think the vinyl sounds a bit better then the CD for what it's worth. I hear what you are saying though - from the cast of players you'd expect an all out masterpiece!
-
Joe Henderson "tetragon" (milestone, USA)
Woody Shaw "blackstone legacy" (contemporary, stereo USA)
Up next if I can stay awake:
Masabumi Kikuchi "matrix" (Victor Japan Think! reissue)
Akira Ishikawa "electrum" (Victor Japan Think! reissue)
Both of these in gatefold replica sleeves..the Japanese sure know how to reissue stuff properly!!

another jump into unchartered Japanese waters
Excellent record!
-
Steve Lacy/Yuji Takahashi/Takehisa Kosugi "distant voices" (Columbia, Japan). A masterpiece.
-
The vinyl reissue of "hum dono" certainly sounds better then the cd reissue so let's get those fingers crossed!
-
Joe Henderson "inner urge" (blue note ny USA stereo ear) my favorite Henderson blue note along with "our thing"
Akira Miyazawa "Kiso" (Victor, Japan orig) simply amazing...incredible album
What vinyl are you spinning right now??

"Flakes" by Lacy is a tough listen; I rarely pull it out. It's fascinating but you got to be in *that* mood for it
