  1. Those really bright headlights on cars...

    Those bright lights are a real pain for other drivers esp. when they're on an SUV. I drive a small car and those lights on an oncoming truck or SUV shine right into my eyes and nearly blind me. I'm not entirely sure why people need those lights in city or suburban driving anyway, with all the street lights. They might be a help on a dark country road, esp. if you feel the need to drive fast. But I drove for years on rural roads with regular headlights and survived quite nicely.

    See, that's where I was coming from too. But I do a lot of highway driving at night and the stock lights on my '99 Voyager stink. These help immensely. If it helps me see better coming and going to gigs, I'm gonna do it!

    Man, this thing just keeps getting better and better the more I listen to it.

    Funny story: I had this on my Christmas wishlist that I gave to my wife. Christmas morning came and went and no box. :( She kept saying "I couldn't afford it. I bought you this nice shirt and socks... don't you like them?" Big guilt trip.

    So we go to my sisters to have Christmas dinner with the extended family and the siblings exchange gifts (I have six siblings). Guess what one of my gifts was!!! OH I LOVE MY LITTLE SISTER! Who had help from my brother. And my wife was involved too! :) Tricky!

    Anyway, Stanley is my all-time favorite tenor player, bar none. This box ROOLS!

    I would get it for the playing alone. I agree with Soulstream on that one. Jimmy at his wildest. Some of it is mind-boggling, some of it is downrigth too much in my opinion, but it's all amazing.

    The sound quality isn't great, but I don't think it detracts from the music. I don't think Bluenote had figured out how to record live yet. Or maybe the equipment just wasn't up to snuff. Whatever the reason, it is kind of rough, but the music far outweighs that concern.

    A friend of mine just got this CD player. We tested it out on my system which consists of:

    B&W CDM-SE1s

    Adcom GFA-5800

    Adcom GFP-750

    Nordost Blue Heaven interconnects

    Audioquest Type IV speaker wire

    I own an Arcam Diva player which I really liked... until I heard the NuVista. Even my wife, who is completely skeptical of these things, noticed the difference right away and her eyes got really big (we were comparing Alison Krauss' new recording, her favorite artist).

    The NuVista is absolutely amazing. I have not heard SACD yet, but this things makes CDs sound fantastic.

    OoooooOOooOO yeah baby! Burn me one! Let's see what I can trade...

    I have that Shirley Scott record on Strata East that's bad as all getout...

    I also have a sweet Billy Preston record where he's playing organ and piano and doing all gospel tunes. Amazing organ work on that one.

    I've got lots of vinyl. Ask me about something...

    Oo, just remembered one. Gene Ludwig on Mainstream. With Jerry Byrd on guitar. Bad shit! :)

    This is my aim... I've made some wonderful friends on the BNBB and it would suck to see those friendships trail off. If the BNBB is going to take away our freedoms and the AAJ board won't give us those same freedoms, then we can have them here. This board was set up for you guys (and gals) to come and talk and hang out and not worry about someone hanging over your head and censoring what you have to say. As long as we all treat each other in a civil manner, we'll have no problems.

    The only thing that would make me say something is if someone was personally attacking another person or using this board to spout hate. I won't stand for that. Anything else goes... any kind of music. Music is music. Life contains much more than music so we can talk about that as well.

    I will do my best to make this place user-friendly. Any and all comments/criticisms and questions are welcome.

    I was just playing around with the options offered by the bulletin board software. I don't know where you found it but software you're running here is most excellent.

    The guy who I buy webspace from (thechain.com) turned me on to it. It's very nice. The homepage is http://www.invisionboard.com. It's open source too, which is very cool!

    I like it better than most other bb software I've seen... especially the free ones! :D

    Yeah I was against them... they stick out like a sore thumb in a line of cars and can be distracting. Plus they're really bright...

    BUT...

    I realized today driving my van home from the shop (transmission went out... luckily under warranty!) that I couldn't see very well with my headlights, even with the brights on. And I drive all over the place. I'm constantly doing gigs hours away from home.

    So I bought some of those really white, super bright halogens. They cost $40 for the pair. And they are SWEET! I can see everything very clearly and they seem to cast a wider ban of light, too. I'm sure the other drivers hate my guts, but I need to see!

    What do y'all think?
