I don't recall writing the notes for a Gene Harris album. I wrote so many that I lost track. I hope they weren't too embarrassing. Allen Lowe (e-dropping heir to the Loews Theatres fortune): "Chris - I am confused - are you saying that acetates were not used for test pressings?" No, but only by Jack Towers, and only for pressing hair, and then only when that hair was an acetate wig. Jack was a complex man.
-
And let us not forget that acetate discs were in common use at radio stations. Even in 1959/60 (well into the tape era), when I was producing programs at WCAU (Philly), we used acetates whenever we needed sound bites in our productions
-
An acetate cannot be a "pressing". Wikipedia is full of crap like that. And what the hell is "acetate vinyl"???
-
A commercial rejected by superbowl or network.

I never heard of a "test" acetate. What were they testing? And what is a "WLP" Riverside? This post has been edited by Elizabeth Schwartzkopf: Today, 10:47 AM

I see Jim's marathon posting as being akin to a hot dog eating contest. One cannot really savor a well-turned hot dog when gobbling it down in Indiana 500 fashion. By the same token, I think the many frivolous posts Jim has to generate in order to reach the breath-taking (to some) number seriously waters down or renders un-read his many excellent observation and comments. Just my 2¢

According to Bill Kirschner (elsewhere), he passed away peacefully in his sleep. I found this photo online... July 17, 1943 party in the lasies dressing room for Clark Monroe at Murrain's (Harlem) 7th Avenue, corner of West 132nd Street New York City. Duke Jordan, left side, Leonard Gaskin, (above Clark), Max Roach, (next of Leonard Gaskin) Clark Monroe (Center), and Helen Monroe (in front of Clark).

My baby Mac was preceded by an Apple ][ and an Apple ///. I guess they all smoked, in a manner of speaking, but that was nothing compared to my 3-month-old iMac. Anyway, you started me thinking about Woz and his incredible ][ machine. I no longer have it, but I kept the manual, which apparently came straight from his typewriter, pencil, and Xerox machine. Apple has come a long way...

That is how the graphics program, "Paint", was packaged.

You're welcome, MG. Here's one especially for you. You did want to see record producers in action, did you not? Well, here's an unusual one I just came across. I guess Orrin Keepnews and Flora Purim were sealing something with a kiss!
