  1. Can anyone recommend other disks with Hauser but perhaps without Liemgruber?

Nope, they're joined at the hip. You must hear Quartet Noir, if you haven't already. And L'ENIGUEMATIQUES, or however the hell you spell that, has some of the finest percussion work I've ever heard. You probably have those already.

  2. Oh, John, Late hipped me to Deals... about a year ago and it was some of the best hippin a hipster like Late's yet to hip. I have yet to hear any other Assif.

That Birds and Blades disc(s) is truly phenomenal if you're into Guy's playing. Same ol' Evan Parker though, not that that's a bad thing.

  3. re: Spaulding or Higgins?  You're wrong either way.

    Both!!! :tup:tup:tup

I think Higgins is particularly inspired, whereas Spaulding sounds like he's trying to blow all the wax outta his alto. I'll grant you that his flute playing on the second track (name escapes me) is sublime. But beyond that, he sounds like he's trying to out-Ornette Ornette!

Oh my fuck. We're due for another beer I guess.

  4. I'm becoming increasingly convinced that Will Ferrell is an American comic treasure. I see him developing into a serious comic force over the years....

Actually, what I saw on those Anchorman clips wasn't anything I've already come to expect from Farrell. Not that that's a bad thing, because he is still tremendously funny and it will probably be a while before he needs a new bag. I really liked him in ELF because he actually had a character he was able to work with on another level than straight-up comedy.

I hear you guys on his SNL DVD. The Bob Goulet doing hip-hop classics almost killed me. POPPAH!

  5. Chuck, clearly we must fight to the death.

    And your choice of weapons?

I was thinking keyboards, but I normally fight my battles vicariously through others so I'm at a loss.

btw, I reevaluated my opinion on this disc last night on my way home from getting smoked in a racquetball tourney. James Spaulding was the friggin TRUTH. Still can't get with it otherwise. Higgins sounds bored.

  6. Government interference is an oxymoron in my field, considering I work for the government. Can't relate on the other issues because of that. Most of the teaching I have done has been within extended (6+ month) curricula. Teaching each topic only once in each 6 month period hardly keeps me on top of the material, but it does allow time for researching trends and new developments. What makes the job great is those occasions where you see the light bulb illuminate over a student's head, washing out the frustration of his/her "not getting it".
