From an outstanding Sibelius cycle ....
Yes! I'm especially partial to Ashkenazy's way with Sibelius' Fifth Symphony. It always knocks me out.

This is re: Did These Feet: I like most of the music on the cds but the sound seems "thin" to me (sort of low-fi) maybe because it was all recorded for radio several decades ago. The book is very informative though I didn't really need to know the politics of each musician and didn't Whitney Balliett not Martin Williams coin the term "the sound of surprise"?
Thanks for this feedback, @medjuck.

Pre-ordered from Dusty Groove today, two albums due to be available at the end of January 2024:
Mal Waldron-Terumasa Hino - Reminiscent Suite (Victor JP)
BBE reissueIrakere - Grupo Irakere (Areito/EGREM)
Mr. Bongo reissueBoth albums are long-time favorites, but I've only heard them as MP3 downloads. The collector in me loves that I will finally have these albums as tangible objects, and the music lover in me can't wait to hear them in higher fidelity!

ESPN has huge contract with SEC.
ESPN has rights to all "playoff" games.
That committee was going to install a 1-loss SEC team over an undefeated FSU team by hook or by crook and by fuck, they did.
The ACC was 6-4 against the SEC. FSU won two games on the road against the SEC. They beat 4 top 25 teams. Their "weak" offense without Jordan Travis had more yards in the ACC championship game than Michigan did in the Big 10 championship. They held a top 20 offense to six points in the ACC championship. Oh, and 3rd in strength of schedule - BETTER THAN ALABALAMA.
This is a joke of a travesty of a criminally dishonest corrupt organization.
-Embittered, infuriated FSU grad.
Someone tell me how I am wrong and this can be defended.
Dan,
I agree with you 100%. It's indefensible, a complete sham.
I follow the Georgia Bulldogs. We didn't win, and we were rightfully excluded. I just say this to let you know that not all people who follow SEC football are "SEC homers."
It's RIDICULOUS that FSU was excluded. They should have been the three seed, and Texas should have been the four seed.
Records have to matter. Otherwise, why play the game?

Your right. It ends up being a "beauty contest." And they can base it on anything they wish.
It's absurd.

The opening Just Friends is my favourite standard interpretation ever.

I’ll probably wait to hear some reviews before I made a decision — but I imagine it’s gonna be pretty damn tempting to get, I must confess.
I agree 100%. It seems like there's relatively little info available (in English) on J-Jazz. So I can scarcely imagine not taking the plunge on this book.

Makes sense to me.
