  1. NP: Pat Metheny, Dave Holland, Roy Haynes - Question and Answer (Geffen, 1990)
  2. No disrespect intended to anyone, but I think Rahsaan's artistic vision was much more wide-ranging and imaginative and singular than Carter's. I suppose this is because I think Kirk gets FAR less credit than he deserves. I think he belongs in the most rarefied of air, up there on Olympus! Just my take, of course.
  3. Claudio Roditi, Klaus Ignatzek, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse - Beyond Question (Nagel Heyer, 2009) Excellent chamber jazz from this Brazilian/German/Belgian trio. The tempo is nearly always andante -- but they pull it off beautifully.
  4. Rab - I agree 100%. I think it's one of their best records.
  5. José Neto - Mountains and the Sea de Novo (Caravela Music)
  6. Flora Purim - Midnight Sun (Venture, 1988) I've never seen that cover before. It's sorta creepy! Love the session, of course. But I'm only familiar with the more "traditional Blue Note" cover -- which, ironically, is the reissue.
  7. Chico O'Farrill - Cuban Blues (Verve) Love this stuff.
  8. This is a superb Dvořák Eighth... one of Barbirolli's finest hours, IMO.
  9. Something to brighten up my Monday morning:
  10. I think My Kind of Sabi is terrific too. I included it in my 70s jazz favorites survey. Eddy Louiss' most famous work might be his sideman appearance on Stan Getz's Dynasty. (This record is TREMENDOUS, and it's also in my 70s survey.) Other Louiss records that I know & would recommend: - Trio Humair, Louiss, Ponty - Vol. 1 (Dreyfus) - Trio Humair, Louiss, Ponty - Vol. 2 (Dreyfus) - Eddy Louiss Trio with Kenny Clarke & René Thomas (Dreyfus) - Ivan Jullien, Eddy Louiss - Porgy and Bess (Riviera/Gitanes) - Stan Getz - Communication '72 (Verve/Gitanes)
  11. Lynch makes such a lovely sound. ... And Lewis Nash always swings.
  12. Jimmy Ponder - Down Here on the Ground (Milestone, 1984) Excellent. The photo on the cover is the surface of Mars, taken by Viking 2 in 1976. I think it's hilarious that they added the guitar in the foreground. Terrific!
  13. I'm having a lazy Sunday morning cuppa joe. Drinking it from my Shakespearean insults mug.
  14. Enrico Rava Quintet - Secrets (Soul Note, 1987) and The Zawinul Syndicate - Black Water (Columbia, 1989)
  15. LP 2 - Gismonti solo
  16. Arrived in the mail yesterday. First spin today: Hermeto Pascoal E Grupo - Lagoa Da Canoa Município De Arapiraca (Happy Hour/Som Da Gente, 1984)
  17. More Flora & Airto: Disc 2 - originally released as The Sun Is Out
  18. NP: Flora Purim & Airto - Humble People (Concord/George Wein Collection, 1985) Good one!
  19. Airto - Identity (Arista, 1975)
