  1. Picked up these today: - Al Cohn's America (Xanadu LP) - Richard Davis - As One (Muse LP) - Shelly Manne Quartet featuring Lee Konitz - French Concert (Galaxy LP) - Cecil Taylor Unit (New World CD) - Jaki Byard - Sunshine of My Soul: Live at the Keystone Korner (HighNote CD) I downloaded this from emusic a couple years ago, but I decided to upgrade to a CD since the music is so stinkin' magnificent. Ives is the man! Woo-hoo!
  2. I agree 100%!!! It's my all-time favorite Mosaic.
  3. xybert, there's no fingerprint on my disc 2. You might want to write to Mosaic about it. I've only had one issue with a Mosaic disc, and they sent me a replacement in a snap.
  4. Now this: Joanne Brackeen with Eddie Gomez - Prism (Choice, rec. 1978)
  5. Stanley Cowell Trio - Illusion Suite (ECM, rec. 1972) with Stanley Clarke (b) and Jimmy Hopps (d)
  6. Sorry to hear that Greenfield has passed -- but what a lovely way of thinking about the "critic's" job! I admire that very much.
  7. Thanks for the heads-up on this Ronnie Scott's archival stuff, Marcello. I didn't know that this music had been released. Definitely something that I'm going to check out.
  8. As a Hawks fan, I'm sorry to see DeMarre Carroll go. That said, I'm glad that the Hawks were able to re-sign Paul Millsap. And adding Tiago Splitter was a nice move. I think the Hawks will be in the mix again next year. But I don't think we've acquired the players to get to "the next level." I guess we'll see...
  9. Tons of great stuff in there, ST!
  10. After listening to Green Shading Into Blue today (via YouTube), I decided to order this: I'm sorta stoked, looking forward to hearing all of it.
  11. GREAT MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of Woody's very best, imho.
  12. I've also enjoyed this one: Our Kind of Sabi - with John Surman & Daniel Humair
  13. Sad news. RIP
  14. I've got a few days of vacation later this week, and I'm hoping to get some riding in. I might make a run up to the north Georgia mountains. My bike is a 2003 Kawasaki ZRX1200R. It's loads of fun to ride. Sadly, I've barely touched it this year. Life's just been busy, and I've been focused on other things. Here's a pic from a ride that my wife and I took a few years ago:
  15. agreed .... I'd never heard Free Spirits before. Just listening to "Ode to Saint Cecile" on YT now. Wow! What a TIGHT trio! This record goes right to the top of my "to get" list. Thanks for the heads-up!!!
  16. A bunch of JH's Milestones are excellent. My favorite from that era is Canyon Lady. To that end, if the Milestone box is still available cheaply, that's money (less) money well-spent. Yep. I got that box CHEAP. And it's chock-full of fantastic music.
  17. A bunch of JH's Milestones are excellent. My favorite from that era is Canyon Lady.
  18. Inner Urge Our Thing Mode for Joe
  19. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if both the Warriors and the Cavs were in the Finals again NEXT year. And I say this begrudgingly because I'm a Hawks fan.
  20. Good deal. I'm going to get that book. Thanks.
  21. Jim - Great writing, as usual. I love your soloing on Desmond's soloing. Colin - Nice quote. Do you know where that's from? An interview?
  22. I don't have a horse in the race. But I hope that the Cavaliers win tonight -- just to force a game 7. That said, if I were a betting man, I'd put my money on the Warriors to win the Championship in Cleveland tonight.
  23. When I was just beginning to explore jazz in the late-80s, I got a CD player for my birthday. To jump-start my collection, I decided to join the Columbia House Music Club. My first order: - Erroll Garner - Concert by the Sea - Miles Davis - Kind of Blue - John Coltrane - A Love Supreme - Duke Ellington - At Newport I've loved Concert by the Sea -- and Erroll Garner -- ever since.
