    Anthony Braxton

I listened to this this morning: Anthony Braxton & Brett Larner - 11 Compositions (duo) 1995 (Leo) Very nice, Brett plays Koto! At times he reminds me of Harry Partch on a Kithra.
  2. She looks like Aria Giovanni! Nothing wrong with that.
  3. October 4, 2004 Sony Abandons Copy - Control Music CDs By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 9:52 a.m. ET TOKYO (AP) -- Sony Corp.'s music unit is abandoning its CDs that use built-in technology that limits copying them, after pushing the program for two years. Such CDs let users copy their music once for free onto a personal computer, but use the Internet to charge a fee for subsequent copying of the same disk. However, Sony Music Entertainment has announced it will stop publishing them, mainly because its message against illegally copying CDs for uses such as in file-sharing over the Internet has widely sunk in, the company said. Sony Music has learned that only a small part of the population illegally copy CDs, company spokeswoman Kimiko Ohashi said Monday. The music giant recently started adapting its strategy due to the proliferation of MP3 computer files, used to store music in audio players such as Apple's iPod, which are rapidly becoming a global music industry phenomenon. Sony said last month that its portable audio players, which will soon go on sale in Europe, will be able to use any MP3 files. Previously, Sony's players only handled MP3 files that were converted into the company's own format. CD sales have plunged in recent years in Japan and elsewhere, as people increasingly use the Internet to download music. As a company with major electronics and entertainment divisions, Sony has constantly faced the dilemma of wanting to protect the copyright of movies, music and other entertainment assets it owns, while trying to make its electronics gadgets popular with users.
  4. October 3, 2004 Stones Drummer Reportedly Beats Cancer By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 6:21 p.m. ET LONDON (AP) -- Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has won a battle with throat cancer, lead singer Mick Jagger said. Watts, 63, was diagnosed with cancer four months ago and recently finished a successful six-week chemotherapy treatment at a London hospital. ``Charlie has had all his treatments and he's now been cleared and is free of any illness,'' Jagger told the Daily Mirror for Saturday's editions. The chemotherapy left Watts weak, and he will spend time recovering with his wife, Shirley, before going back to work, the Mirror reported. The drummer has recently split his time between the Stones and his jazz band, Tentet. Jagger said he hoped to record new material and schedule a tour in the near future for the Stones. ``Keith Richards and I have been writing lots of songs for the new Rolling Stones album,'' Jagger said. ``We haven't booked the tour yet and when we do we'll let you know, but there will definitely be another one.''

And how about those Ghost Trance Music recordings? An interesting concept, but there were so many of them!

I think he's amazing. If there's 300 recordings, I own a hair above 1/6th. Can't keep up with it all!

    Should be Mosaic!
  10. Do they have a website? Is there a forum there? - I could post a couple of recommendations there. http://www.musicaconcarne.com/

I have a reasonable collection of Braxton disks, but I haven't really listened to a lot of them in years. Some favorites that stand out: The Arista recordings (except For Four Orchestras, I'll have to revisit that someday). Piano Music (Notated) 1968-1988, Quartet (Dortmond) 1976, Quartet (Santa Cruz) 1993, Quintet (Basel) 1977: all on the Hat *** label. The Creative Music Orchestra disks: Creative Orchestra Music 1976 (Arista/RCA BLUEBIRD), Creative Music Orchestra (Koln) 1978 (Hat Art) and Eugene (1989) (Black Saint). That's it for now, more in the future.
  13. it does? I bet it's all 7/4's fault.
  14. Yes. Thanks for clearing that up. I spend so much time thinking about a few cents here and there, and I forget about the history!
  15. On my monitor, the photo is so large, I have to scroll right to check it out.
  16. Not in equal temperament only, it's just another way of dividing up thte octave.
  17. "It's hard work, Mike. HARD work!" How did he get so tanned, so quick?
  18. I don't think they have much of anything to do with each other. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...harmolodic&st=0
  19. I agree. Many is the time I've dropped in to find an interesting discussion about something that deserved it's own thread. That Capt. Beefheart discussion from last weekend, for example.

  21. And in North African and Middle Eastern music too.
