Hey ya’ll, Antone’s Records in Austin is selling some OOP Mosaic boxes, currently Earl Hines for 119.99, Condon Mob for 59.99(!), etc. Posting new ones daily on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. You can find links to any of these sites at http://www.antonesrecordshop.com
Yes, same people who have the longtime Austin club and record label.
Just a heads up. Also, support an independent record store.

So, I can get King Crimson "On (And Off) The Road" for about $106 total right now on ImportCDs versus at DMG for around $150. My question is can ImportCDs be trusted shipping an LP sized box set? Cheap is great but not if it comes damaged.

I’m jumping at the OTC set, but I wish they had the complete Montreux box.
So, if I have the 40th anniversary Bitches Brew box and the 1999 2 CD set, is there any reason to get the Complete Bitches Brew set? I know the contents is different, but is it worth it? Opinions?
And is there anything in the Seven Steps box that’s not available on the individual CDs?

I almost never do downloads (3-4 releases total, over the last decade, literally). And I only buy vinyl if there's no other option -- and even then, never "new releases" that are only on vinyl (though I will occasionally buy some older vinyl, for something that's never been on CD ever, or is impossible to find on CD).
I suppose eventually I might have to buy actual "new" new releases on vinyl, to avoid downloads (which I hate), but it hasn't come to that yet.
I too prefer CD's FAR AND AWAY over every other format, but I guess I'm a dying breed. Might be easier if I was already 70, and my "buying years" were more limited -- but I expect to have some continued interest in music for another 20-25 years, I hope.
As a result, 80% of my purchases (overall), have been of older product that was released years ago -- almost always stuff by older artists I'm just discovering now. But new artists, for the most part, I'll never hear 95% of their stuff as a result.
I guess I'm entirely the one to blame, but I refuse to dump money into downloads, i.e. data that I won't necessary have reliable access to 10-20 years from now unless all the planets stay in perfect alignment to keep all that virtual music accessible in perpetuity.
These are my thoughts and habits exactly. Thank you.

Has anyone here bought directly from the Incus Records website? Unlike labels such as Emanem, Ayler, and Leo, Incus specifically lists two prices, 12GBP or $20 per CD. As far as I can tell, these are not equal. So, being in the US, it would seem I should go with the $20 price. However, using the PayPal button defaults to GBP and there seems no way to switch currency. I emailed Incus but they didn’t seem to understand the question but acknowledged that it’s confusing. Maybe it doesn’t even matter, but then why list the different prices?

All their albums are worth getting. Is this band even still active, given the economics of running a big band today?
I had the incredible good fortune to see them several years ago for free(!) at a downtown jazz fest in San Antonio. The year earlier they had the Wayne Shorter Quartet. Crazy. But nothing even remotely as good since then.

PM sent on the Kenny Wheeler set.

The Mingus set has re-appeared. Get it while you can.

Sad news out of San Antonio, as reported over various local sources.

Collectors Choice used to be a good company with their own label. The label did GREAT work, too. I just checked, and the logo is the same...is this yet another case of a brand being bought and now used for a purpose several times again removed from its original cache?
I agree about the old Collectors Choice. But the label folded years ago and apparently their brand was bought. It’s a shame.

I made a contribution. If you can afford even a few dollars, let’s all get behind this.

Well then, good news:
In January 2011, the recorded-sound section of the Library of Congress announced its largest-ever acquisition: approximately 200,000 metal parts, aluminum and glass lacquer disc masters, donated by Universal Music Group. The recordings, dating from 1926 to 1948, are among the oldest extant masters in UMG’s catalog. Physical ownership of the masters was permanently transferred from UMG to the federal government; UMG retained the intellectual-property rights. The library is free to preserve the recordings, digitize them and make them available to scholars. The label can continue to exploit them commercially. For the label, it’s a great deal, transferring preservation responsibility for some of its most fragile assets while saving on storage costs.
I’m fine with this, as the alternative is decay, destruction, and/or unavailability. I hope it includes lots of jazz.

As always, it comes down to money. Someone has to pay to store that stuff; are you going to do it? Are you willing to pay higher taxes so the gov't can do it (as if the gov't would get it right)?
I am willing to pay taxes for exactly this sort of thing, if that were an option.
in the meantime, is Iron Mountain hiring?

So, is the second offer still on (minus the Threadgill)?

Funny, now that I listen to jazz his music sounds so much different to me. Never paid much attention to him until now but everything about him sounds fascinating. Gotta get my hands on his first album.

I ran into Roky at a grocery store in Austin on Halloween 1996. He bought chocolate and cigarettes. He wasn’t in great shape mentally at the time and someone was escorting him but he was nice. I got the chance to tell him I had his great CD “All That May Do My Rhyme.”

PM sent on the Braxton Series F Cd.

PM sent on the Wayne Shorter Emanon.

They mentioned that they have some but haven’t posted any yet. They seem to be doing a couple each day. I’m hoping for a Bud Shank or Phil Woods set.
I’m in San Antonio but stopped by there several times pre-pandemic. You can find some crazy stuff there, often cheap.
