  1. Had to wrap up my Blue Note project with a tribute to Ornette: https://bopandbeyond.wordpress.com/2015/06/15/blue-note-75-for-75-ornette-colemans-at-the-golden-circle-stockholm-1965/
  2. On twitter now: @bopandbeyond Just added my second-to-last Blue Note project post on Don Cherry's Where Is Brooklyn? https://bopandbeyond.wordpress.com/2015/06/01/blue-note-75-for-75-don-cherrys-where-is-brooklyn/
  3. If you are in the NYC area tonight, there are still a few slots open for my Lee Morgan class tonight at Brooklyn Brainery. More information is available here: http://brooklynbrainery.com/courses/hard-bop-heroin-heartache-lee-morgan-s-jazz-story
  4. I've always heard a lot of Byas in Hank's playing, would've loved to hear them jam together.
  5. Thelonious Monk Quartet Plus Two - At Blackhawk - Riverside I love Land on this date. Apparently he and Joe Gordon got the last minute call to perform and you'd never know it from Land at least. He plays Monk's tunes with poise and even eggs on Rouse a little bit -- both men are excellent. Gordon seems a little more flustered but still acquits himself nicely.
  6. Sorry to bump an old thread but I have listening to Total Eclipse non-stop this week and Harold Land's playing is like wildfire on it! What a great date all around. I did a brief write-up about it the other day: https://bopandbeyond.wordpress.com/2015/04/30/blue-note-75-for-75-bobby-hutchersons-total-eclipse-1968/ Land is quite underrated. His work with Clifford Brown is far more enjoyable to me than Rollins (who seems to still be getting his feet wet). Land is nothing if not authoritative throughout the course of his career, particularly hitting his stride with Hutch. Hot stuff!
  7. Hi Everyone, I used to post a here a long time ago when my radio show, Bop And Beyond, was on the air. My jazz activity had been dormant for awhile but I re-activated my blog last year when a friend challenged me to review 75 random Blue Note albums in celebration of their 75th anniversary. The project wraps up soon so I thought I should get the word out. Check it out here: https://bopandbeyond.wordpress.com/tag/blue-note-75-for-75/ Thinking about doing a similar thing for a smaller label soon. Cheers, Christopher
