  3. Indeed. Sometimes he can.
  4. Hey, you spilled the obi beans, not me. Do you play poker? Seriously - It's a great side, and that's a fine price. Anybody who doesn't have it should carpe diem. And I mean that.
  5. But it's always good to be reminded. Sometimes Crystal gets on my nerves really badly, and remembering the Gabler/Commodore connection often eases the pressure.
  6. What are the odds the there's still a clean stamper for Jody Grind lying around somewhere and they could repress the vinyl! I know, slim just left town...
  7. Can I be your friend? Do you have Ring Girls?
  8. Konitz & Mosca.
  9. Ever seen the solo bit he did on one of the early SNL shows where he did a monologue as "Face"? Roughly based on Zutty Singleton, IIRC. Tag line - "Can you dig it? I knew that you could." Pretty touching, really.
  10. It's Torme! It's Shearing! It's Concord! Duh!
  11. Apparently so. Let's do the math - D I C K B O C K = O N S M A C K Assign each letter a numerical value of its position in the alphabet, and we get: 4 9 3 11 2 15 3 11 = 15 14 19 13 1 3 11 Now, let's add: 4+9+3+11+2+15+3+11 = 15+14+19+13+1+3+11 58 = 76 Add again: 5+8 = 7+6 13 = 13 And to remove all doubt: 1+3 = 1+3 4 = 4 Therefore, Dick Bock was indeed on smack. Q.E.D.
  12. Keep it up!
  13. Alexander Blok Rene Bloch G (& J) Blockhead
  14. I saw Barretto & Lou Donaldson reunited at one of those "Salsa Meets Jazz" things that the Village Gate was running ca. 1980. Ray did a set w/his own band (w/the great Sal Cuevas on electric bass) and then had Lou come out to sit in for a set. The music, of course, was superb. The vibe was strong, and Ray & Lou's smiles lit up the room as much as did their playing. Everybody danced for every song. It was beautiful. Que Viva La Musica!
  15. Paul Henning Rooster Cogburn Chick Webb
  16. Had a chance to hear this one today, and it's a swell session: http://www.cosmicsounds-london.com/DUSKO/birdland.htm No idea how to get it though. It's a Japanese disc, and all I got was a loaner. But if you come across it somewhere, carpe diem. Gianni Basso is sweet on this one!
  17. Julie Newmar Michelle Pfeiffer Lee Merriweather
  18. Albert Murray Albert Ayler Sunny Murray
  19. I trade for their promo copies and then burn them for all my friends.
  20. Mother Goose Goose Tatum Tatum O'Neal
  21. The S/N ratio of that photo is unfavorable.
  22. As posted by one of our beloved Hoosiers, in Indiana all heads have to be smaller than burritos served in the state. At least that's the way I remember it. Not necessarily, Chuck. Heads can be any size; burritos just have to be bigger. I'm sure we can find a burrito bigger than Larry Bird's head; we don't have much else to do down here.... You should change the name of the state to Chipotle then!
  23. Well, there you go. I'd wager a good sammich that the Lonehill is a stright rip-off of the Japanese issue.
  24. That's all cool and shit, but can you bring some Ring Girls?
