Not like all of us. I've quite often thought of those who have more than one identity on the same jazz website as fractioned, unnessesarily. Probably more difficult for them to maintain the separate personalities they've established, than it is for us to bother to worry about it. Our handles here are all we are, along with our personalities established through our opinions as expressed through our posts. Sure, there is leg-pulling going on, but essentially this is who we are, to each other, for better or worse. I, of course, are much taller than I appear in print.
-
Which I would expect you to do. My other access is a different ISP. Although I guess I could have posted from both, I didn't see the need. What would be the point of juggling more than one handle?? Silliness.
-
I see. So if I registered with my main access-provider, I could also register with free ones, like hotmail and mail.com. I'm an uncomplicated person, and for me, that would be a certain path to "The Three Faces Of Eve". I hardly have enough imagination for one personality. Interesting though.

Oh, that's OK. I just thought it was somebody who is able to fiddle and diddle with our posts............and I was right. The mirror-printing was actually kind of cool, although I shouldn't have to think, quite that early in the morning. I wasn't ticked, just curious. I also thought that it was impossible for a poster to register more than once, from the same computer, because we have to give our ISP, but have never felt the need to. I'm also registered, for emergency purposes only, from my daughter's computer, at another address, with another handle, but have never posted comments from any but my own. So, onward............

CAUTION - New Email Virus
patricia replied to street singer's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I understand what you're saying, but the thing about this one is that it looks like one you would open. I only knew about it, because of the way it appeared on the list of e-mails as a normal e-mail. Normally I would have opened it, because "Hi" is not an unusual subject. The only reason I didn't open it was that I had been warned by someone who is a computer systems analyst and was, himself, almost fooled because his seemed to come from me. It's not about the stupidity of the recipient. It's not really fair to blame the recipient. The virus people are the ones who are being destructive. It's an assault and blaming the victim is not the right response, IMO. The virus-sender is the one who did something criminal, not the recipient who was simply reading their mail. -
CAUTION - New Email Virus
patricia replied to street singer's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes. I was tipped off the other day. It can appear as someone you usually correspond with, or just a name you don't recognize. It looks like a personal message with an attachment. Luckily my correspondant called me to ask if I had sent anything, before opening it. His had my name as the sender and the subject was "Hi", making it seem like a harmless note. Mine was an unknown name, with the same subject, "Hi". I deleted it and dumped my deleted file immediatly and don't have a problem, but it's diabolical and pointless, as all these viruses are. -
"Masterhit" 's trick of turning the post into mirror-printing is unworthy of this thread. Rather makes me think of the young DAVID COPPERFIELD at the very, very beginning of his now very successful career. Anyone with a printer can read the post. So...................what's the deal?? Did our thread-originator transform his own post into mirror-printing, or is it possible for someone else to skew our posts?? Was this self-immolation, much like a Buddhist monk, or something more sinister? Strange. And, speaking of strange, who is this new poster, "Deepisaloser"?? Joined today. No posts, anywhere. What's up with just being a provocateur?? That's more offensive than any of the exchanges on this thread, IMO.

What happened?? As Harold said, "Say it ain't so, Joe"!

Republicans. Testesterone overload. What can you do??

The mind boggles. A brain and a spare. A head and a spare. Where will it end?? Neither one lives anywhere. That is, unless *Not Given* is a village in Arkansas who has lost an important member of their community.

Organissimo Picked As One of the Best of 2003
patricia replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Yesssssss!!!!! Congratulations!! -
Nonsense. I was merely defending everyone's right, including yours, to freedom of expression. You exercise your right to freedom of expression all the time. So do I. That's all I was saying. I don't need a champion. I have never expected to have anyone champion me, although the idea is appealing, in a quaintly old-fashioned way. I can defend myself, although I'm not indistructable.

I disagree with ANYONE being banned, even those with whom I may disagree. If someone posts a comment which is inflammatory, directed at a particular post-mate, the offended person is perfectly able to rebut, just like in real life. I, for one, am fairly tolerant and have met few people who can't be reasoned with. Provocative posts are not that unusual and are usually intended to stimulate spirited debate. No blood will ever be shed here, so to let the controversial comment play itself out is a realistic solution, IMO. Banning a poster should be the absolute last avenue, so seldom chosen that the offending poster will live in infamy. As far as I can see, nobody fits that catagory..............yet. But, what do I know??

Will do Clint. As for my hirsuteness, I'm Norwegian. We have so little body hair that it takes me about twenty minutes, twice a year, to tweeze out the twenty-six hairs, total on my shins. I have inner chest hair, the most dangerous kind. Angora makes me sneeze. I prefer four-ply cashmere.

Exactly. Thank you Alexander.

Lyrics are the expression of the composer's view of whatever he/she is thinking when they're writing them. They are thoughts, put to music, whether they are about love, betrayal or life as it's being experienced. So, it stands to reason that the political and social climate of the time would be reflected in the lyrics of songs of an era. I don't know why this would be a surprise. But, there are many who choose to ignore the message, whether it's conveyed by literature, art or music. Although I think that they are ripping the heart from the total work, I suppose that because the artform, whatever it is, can also be enjoyed, or not, on it's own merits, they miss a large part of it's significance. Books, photographs and music are the most powerful vehicles of change, so are not just art. They are history in the making.

Photographer Helmut Newton Killed in Crash
patricia replied to Bright Moments's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Great photographer. His photographs were considered in the same catagory as some of Robert Mapplethorpe's more controversial work. Both broke new ground, although both disturbed the viewer, which was the point. However both photographers had wonderful eyes and showed us what they saw. RIP Helmut Newton. -
That's all I'm saying. Life is not compartmentalized. Each segment makes up a part of the totality. To think otherwise is unrealistic.

You would have to be drunk or stoned to confuse the cracker "mock apple" pie with the actual real thing. Point taken. It never occurred to me that our thread-originator and THE GROPER could be the same person. What would be the point?? Surely nobody else on this board is so unsure of their views that they are posting as different people and, in a sense, talking to themselves. Now, THAT'S stupid, not to mention one of the first signs of insanity!! Say it isn't so!!!!
-
Okay, that might make some sense. Does the GROPE agree about this characterization? My humble opinion: APPLES AND ORANGES.
-
I've always felt that art, whether it's painting, literature, photography or music can't help but be affected and influenced by the politics of the day. All aspects of our lives intertwine. Nothing is really isolated, but must be seen as part of the broader picture.
-
Thanks Clifford. I had never heard that term before and even now, don't know whether I've ever heard an example of it.

Chuckling quietly. Of course I get it. But, Abbott and Costello is not as good a comparison as the Nick and Nora Charles.......from Hell is. To me, it's cyber-tennis. Don't think I haven't received my share of criticism, but it's all stemmed from my insistance that everyone who wishes be afforded complete, censorship-free opportunity to express themselves, however they want. I have defended our thread-originator, on many occasions on boards from which he was eventually banished. As a result, I incurred the wrath of people who thought I was an irredeemable "piece of trash" etc. etc. etc, as one e-mail correspondant called me. This freedom, of course, assumes that those who hold different views, or have a different way of expressing themselves have an opportunity to do that too. That's all I'm saying.

I certainly don't think I'm invincible. As for how pleasurable good sex is, well, there's nothing like it. Chocolate, money, nothing compares. There is also nothing more depressing than bad sex. I was facinated, earlier, by your fail-safe method of making yourself essential to a woman's life, by skillfully lying to her with pseudo-passionate declarations of your regard for her. It occurred to me that you seem to think that every time a woman whispered, "You're the best", or "I've never felt this way before", that they weren't stroking your ego because you seemed to expect it. Had you ever thought of that?? Again, maybe I'm totally wrong, but........maybe not.
