Thanks for the BFT. I find 25 tracks a little overwhelming, so I've just been listening to part A right now. With the exception of maybe the vocal track I think this is a really good collection of music. Being honest though, there are just three or four things I would look into further. Actually that isn't a bad percentage.
Track 05 – On the last few BFTs I've been attracted to the traditional tracks every time. Add this one to the list.
Track 06 – You wouldn't tell by looking at my collection but I'm really a fan of solo piano. My first thought was, neat tune that sounds familiar. On repeated listens, I started to realize that this is a seriously talented piano player for my taste.
Track 12 – More to my liking than some of the other tracks. The bass is my favorite part of the track.
Track 13 – Best thing so far for me. For a more free form type of thing, they all seem to be really in tune with each other, especially the horn players. To my ears anyway.
My one obligatory wild ass guess for the BFT, track 01 made me think of Chick Corea.
On to part B.
Thanks for listening!
Track 1 has been puzzled out already, if you care to look back through the comments.
I would agree re: the talent of the pianist heard on 6. He's actually a historically significant player as well.
I would also agree that there is a "tightness" to 13, which, regardless of how you feel about the music itself, merits appreciation.
Well, I love the music on 13.

Of coarse I haven't heard everything he has done but "Tribute" is easily my favorite Paul Motian

Barry Guy, Howard Riley, John Stevens, Trevor Watts,- " Endgame"- (Japo)
rec. 1979 and it's just as good as you'd expect. Recommended.
You inspired me to have a listen and yes it is as good as you would expect. Another one I should listen to more often.

I'm doing a blindfold test in a couple of months (you should check that section out, it is alot of fun), so I've been playing some stuff I haven't heard for awhile to find some music. God that is an awful sentence. Anyway, this is a really good album. I will certainly listen to it more often.
Oho! We'll all guess every track is Pino Manafri
MG
Right now I'm not using it but by tomorrow the whole thing might be changed. You probably know how that goes.

All CDs were shipped as promised. One on HOLD.
Some nice albums still available.

Guys, thanks for the replys. I am moving pretty slow this morning but I will PM you all later today (hopefully this morning). I wouldn't be able to get to the post office until Monday anyway.
Jeff, your thought sounds like a winner to me.

Thanks very much for the BFT, Jeff. Going to play it again knowing the IDs.
I think I will put track 4 on my upcoming BFT just to hear it again. That one and the Danny Barker in particular are just too good.

So, maybe I'm wrong and get egg on my face but I think the singer on 12 is the wonderful Danny Barker. This is totally from the comments, not from my ears. My record of his is from much later in his life.
However you figured it out, you are correct, sir! Now maybe someone will track down more info on this unusual record.
And heck, even if it wasn't an "official" guess, I'm giving you a point for recognizing Han Bennink - it is indeed him on track 11.
eee
I will gladly take a point, doesn't happen very often. I did mean to comment on that track. The only Bennink I know of with that instrumentation is the Clusone Trio. I can almost talk myself into Reijseger but I really don't think the horn guy sounds like Michael Moore.

As for your trip North, I hope the weather is better for you in a couple of weeks. Temp was is the fortys yesterday and we got a couple inches of snow last week. First measureable May snow in a long time.

Just read through the comments. Found them interesting, even if I don't always follow you guys.
I always kind of thought that I might be able to pick out Keith Jarrett but guess I was wrong.
Glad I didn't suggest thinking the singer on 14 might be a man.
Jeff, from your comments I'm pretty sure I know who track 12 is and I'm happy I liked it. Liner notes on the album I have by him say something along the lines of, if you have played this and are not smiling, you didn't listen.

Track 2 – So I think another version of this song was on another fairly recent BFT and I couldn't think of the name and I can't think of it again. The mind is a terrible thing to lose.
Track 3 – I really like this all around. There just seems to be great joy in the way these guys play. I don't know why I haven't collected more of this style.
Track 4 – Same comments as track 2, maybe more so. Looking forward to hearing about these two.
Track 5 – I'm not totally on board with this one but there is a pretty interesting combination of styles.
Track 8 - Another nice one for my taste. Particularly liked the trumpet playing.
Track 11 - The drumming and bass playing on this one kind of appealed to me. I thought the drummer maybe had a little Han Bennink thing going.
Track 12 – I just like this better every time I listen. Big fun.
Track 14 – Leave 'em laughing.
Thanks.

"Revelation" was a good discription. You obviously put alot of thought into this BFT and did a great job of telling us about it.
Thanks very much.

Well, I'm exposed again. I've not heard of Buster Bailey.

May I have a download also? Thanks.

A couple of quick comments.
I don't get around much but you have presented the most unusual takes on St. Louis Blues and Stardust I've heard. Enjoyed them both.
For my taste, track 13 is one of the better things I've heard on a BFT. Good piano and way beyond good clarinet. For some reason, maybe the tune, it made me think of Louis Armstrong's W.C. Handy album. Hopefully someone has or will soon ID this track. I don't want to wait till the end of the month to find out who this is.
Ok, one more comment. The into to track 15 is one of the funniest things I've heard all week.

If you are working with a pc the best deal is (as I have said many times before) this but you need a working tt.
I just bought a slightly different version. I've only copied one LP so far but it worked pretty easy and for my 63 year old ears and needs I think the copy sounds pretty good.
Thanks for the recommendation.

TRACK 7:
ROCKIN IN RHYTHM (DUKE ELLINGTON)Dave Stryker, BLUE TO THE BONE VOL 2 (CRISS CROSS)Stryker, guitarI heartily recommend the first three Blue to the Bone CDs, and don't recommend the latest only because I didn't even know there was a Volume 4 out.So, I don't take part in a BFT and an album I know shows up. Not saying that I would have recognized it but this is a really fine album by an Omaha boy who has made good.
