  3. Interesting Info by west coast researche Mr. Jim Harrod in another forum:

It is good to know that the Pacific Jazz archive is still being mined for reissues although I’m not among the market for these high end analog vinyl gems in Blue Note’s “Tone Poet” series. LP’s to be reissued in 2024 include: Gil Evans - Great jazz Standards, Chet Baker Sings & Plays (PJ-1202), Lee Konitz Plays with Gerry Mulligan, Gerald Wilson - Moment of Truth, The Remarkable Carmell Jones, Joe Pass for Django, Chet Baker / Art Pepper - Picture of Heath, and Curtis Amy / Dupree Bolton - Katanga.

Here is the announcement from Jazziz:

Blue Note Announces 2024 Tone Poet Reissues: Blue Note Records has announced the 2024 lineup for the Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series. The series is produced by “Tone Poet” Joe Harley and features definitive all-analog vinyl reissues of acknowledged treasures of the Blue Note catalog, as well as underrated classics, modern-era standouts and albums from other labels under the Blue Note umbrella, including Pacific Jazz, Transition and United Artists. Newly announced titles begin January 5, at the start of Blue Note’s 85th anniversary year, with the release of Elvin Jones’ Poly-Currents (1969) and Lou Donaldson’s Midnight Creeper (1968).

    😁 👍

Yes the 1972 concert in Stuttgart. Have about on 4 open reels different portions from the radio recorded at that time when it was broadcasted by Zimmerle I guess. Didnt expect it would appear  on CD. Same as the Rosengarten concert from Mannheim.

  5. This is my X-mas present from me to me

(sorry  ---> no vinyl!  Should appear in the other thread)

such a great record. Beautiful music that fits great with the cold winter weather here. Thank you Sam records for an amazing reissue.

Yep! Here too in the stock. Vinyls are the best.

  6. There isnt much "Traditional Jazz" found  here at Organissimo.

But here is an interesting crossection from a festival in Stuttgart 1984 representing some leading groups from Germany in that style.

Listened to this one lately. The 1956 Kenton Orchestra was a rather incredible collection of talent, never to be quite matched by any subsequent Kenton Orchestra.

Live Rosengarten Mannheim 23 April 1956 by Stan Kenton & His Orchestra (2011-02-15)

Yep! One of several concerts in Germany. Have it taped from the radio

    Others are

Live at Ernst Merck Halle, Hamburg   1956/04       Sound of Yesteryear

Kenton in Stockholm       1956  Swedish Radio Years

More interesting are the recordings from his first European Tour 1953 including

Concert in Wiesbaden     1953  Astral Jazz

Artistry in Paris    1953  Jasmine (2)

live in Munich 1953-Deutsches Museum        1953  Sounds of Yesteryear

    and on tape / cassette:

    Kenton,Stan RB Rias        1953/08/27 CD-R           Berlin,Sportpal      USA          Holman/Schildkraut/Childers

    Kenton,Stan RB Rias        1953/08/28 7"(2)           Berlin USA          Christy,June

But with Kenton the arrangers are even MORE central & influential.

I do support that. I came to Kenton via his great 1950s orchestra and the Capitol issues. He himself was also a good arranger:

    - Portrais & Sketches of Standards

    - Kenton presents (with Art Pepper)

    - New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm

    - Contemporary Concepts and the great

    - Showcase (with Holman & Russo arranging)

This period ended with "Back To Balboa" IMO  & I lost him when the 'Neophonic Era' began with the Mellophoniums and that bombastic Wagner Interpretation.

Yes he was a restless searcher as DB printed it.

The recent discovered 1952 Stereo tracks from  The Blue Note Club are again a highlight for me. What a Band with all the later West Coast stars. Among my more than 100 Kenton Items the 1950s are the best sounding Items for me.

    Here is something extra

I guess there is a question over whether the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra could be considered a ghost band or not.

IMO its not a 'ghost' band but an orchestra on its own based on a majority of members of the former TH-ML Orchestra. The sound is very alike but missing are Thad's arrangements and Thas & Mel naturally. OTOH they had invited  some famous guests.

In connection with Sal Mosca (one of the leading members)  and another person connected to the former TH-ML Orchestra  we collected various concerts and produced for a little cicle of interested fans the following concerts from that band on private CD-Rs:

All I can say great  big band music missing so much in Organissimo

Eleven septet arrangements from 1977, unheard until this was recorded 20 years later.

Topnotch Holman writing, even more linear and transparent than usual thanks to the septet format. Highlights Include the almost impossibly extended solo lines from  Saunders, and the Fontana-like work of trombonist Andy Martin. My only quibble is with the "chicken tenor" solos of Pete Christlieb, but some people like that.

I am one of the people  liking Pete Christliebs's tenorsax and ofcourse the rest of that CD
