Yes, I'm enjoying A Capella very much. It took me a while to hear The Singers Unlimited -- but I think I've finally broken through. ... Your description of their music as a 'sound adventure' is very accurate, I think. At times, there's something otherworldly -- you might even say uncanny -- about their music. At first, I missed the nearly-surreal weirdness that's lurking just below the pretty surface.
Now playing:
One of my favorite "new-to-me" discoveries of this year.
Ah yes this one is new to me as Bill Perkins fan - just on top now of my wantlist. Have to check Discogs .
Thanks

I've also got CDs 3&4 from the "Magic Voices" set, which means that I've got "Sentimental Journey" (it's on CD3), though IIRC the one that really knocked me out from that CD was "The More I See You" --a song that was virtually made for TSU and Puerling to interpret.
FYI There exists also an US compilation on PAUSA out of all these MPS originals:

👍 I wish Mosaic had done a Rugolo Box set like they did for Johnny Richards.
Fresh Sound has reissued his Columbia albums in the 1980s on vinyl. Have a nice collection of those plus the one below.

I also have the first VSOP where there was a Concert of all the Hancock groups, starting with VSOP, followed by the sextet with Buster William, Billy Hart, , Maupin, Julian Priester and Eddie Henderson and the funk band with Wah Wah Watson.
The studio album V.S.O.P. was a bit of a disappointment to me. The recording quality, the bass is too loud, and somehow it doesn´t have that fire....the tunes not so exiting...
Good to read that I discovered the V.S.O.P. very late and missed the studio one. It happens often that the live stuff is more exciting than a studio version and NOT vice versa. Not everything with Hancock is a hit. His fusion things get very seldom a spin.

Yes, this was the first VSOP I had. It was brand new then and I was still at high school and we all the guys who listened to jazz or played jazz loved it and shared it.
This version of Red Clay is fantastic !Here are the other 3:
all excellent I do agree to your rating.

Re: The Shades Jazz Orchestra
Some years ago I met a member of this orchestra who told me that they were originally called the Shades of Kenton Orchestra, but had to abandon mention of Kenton following threat of legal action by the great man's widow. (I can't vouch for the truth of his story.)😙
Have read similar Informations in the same context with a band Mike Vax' was and still is leading which has also to changed the bands name somewhat but has still Kentons name as part in it ---> "The Stan Kenton Alumni Band".

Alexander Street Music ALX-M 1800 - Paul Cacia " Starting Now" - rec. 1978 - Engineers: Janet Krick & Bob Stringer

The new form and colors are fine.
But very irritating is after quoting that you see only part of the pictures and/or text
This "expanding" formula should be corrected to the old version.
Thanks (from the 'apprentice')
