Lou Donaldson cancels his dates at the Iridium in NYC...
Popper Lou replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Thanks for the concern. -
These guys are all dead. How did he manage to get them to sign the book? It makes me wonder if it is real.
-
Is he in full retirement, or does he come out and play every now and then?

CD's/Albums of studio or live performaces?
Popper Lou replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
In the studio, you can always do another take to get it right. When it's live, you just have that once chance. That's makes me enjoy live music more. -
When Richie Powell and Clifford Brown died, who was driving?
-
I always wondered what is different between the two. Anyone have the answer?

What would listen to if jazz never happened?
-
I got one as a gift. I wouldn't buy one narmally.

What does everybody collect besides music?
Popper Lou replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I collect sport memorabilia. -
My jazz collection stands at 2223 CD's. I have no albums.

I recently pick up some Dexter Gordon broadcasts on Steeple Chase. I love them. I started wondering of all the radio broadcasts done from the 1930's to present, is there a place where they reside? There is probably hundreds of thousands of great AM and FM shows. I would like to get my hand on some of them. It seems to be just a handful that have made it to disc. I live now in NY. Would anyone know if the museum of TV and radio would house them?

In August, I meet Percy Heath and had his sign a copy of his CD "A Love Song". He was talking about his career with the crowd at the Iridium in NY. He mentioned that the MJQ wanted Wes to join the band, but Wes said no. He didn't give a reason. Maybe it isn't well known.
-
Anyone know why Wes past up making it the Moden Jazz Quintet? From what I ready recently, he was offered to join the band.

I am leaning towards Go!. Sonny Clark brought his "A" game to this session, along with Dexter.

How many of the pioneers of jazz are left? Those from the 1930's though the 50's. It seems in the recent months, more and more have left us. I'm not trying to be morbid, but I want to get to see as many of these cats while I can. I can think of these, some I have seen live and the others not yet. Any others to add to the list. Clark Terry, Seen Hank Jones, Not yet Percy Heath; Seen Jimmy Heath; Seen Sonny Rollins; Seen Horace Silver; Seen Max Roach; Not yet Roy Haynes; Not Yet Jon Hendricks; Seen Ahmad Jamal; Seen Lou Donaldson; Seen Benny Golson; Not Yet Von Freeman; Not Yet Johnny Griffin; Not Yet Jimmy Smith; Seen Dizzy Reece; Not yet, don't knowif he is still with us. Think so. Dave Brubeck Not yet

Is selling yourself the hardest part as a musician
Popper Lou replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Musician's Forum
I'm in it for the music. If someone likes what I play, great. As long as I can sell it to myself. I have to please me first. -
They got sloppy and f'ed up. I never realized it till now. I check a word document I have will all the BN sessions, and 1553 is not used.
-
I do this almost all the time. Helps to listen to yourself. Picked up on some habits I was doing when playing my alto. Made me a better player I think.
-
I lleave that up to Mosaic. They seem to do a great job.
-
Just a joke, never do that stuff myself. I agree with you 100%. It's the music. Sometimes when I am playing I actually can hear what I will be playing 4 or 5 bars later. When you're on, it's very special.
-
Passing the joint around. Not that I ever done that.
-
Is it a female or shemale?
Popper Lou replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Damn, I got 8 correct. -
I have a question. I have never ordered from earlyrecords before. How do I go about placing my order? I don't see an option for a shopping cart or any other medthod.
-
You have to love Hodges' playing. It is so sweet and clean. Some of this music on this set is breathtaking.
