The problem is the decision to give the rights to a single cable channel. It used to be in this round there would be games played at the same time, or under slightly staggered schedules, so you had to choose, but everything got started at a semi-reasonable hour.
Not sure if that win was more talent or fortune (Lackey making exactly one bad pitch, Vladi's baserunning adventure (has anyone checked his birth certificate? Whatever he says, add ten years unless proven otherwise)) but I'll take it. Thom's prediction may actually come through now, particularly with a rematch in Game 4. Lester has been lights out at Fenway, aside from one or two starts, Lackey has gotten pounded. I like the rematch a lot more at the Fens.
TALENT all around ( remember Ellsbury in the WS last year!) and experience !
Funny part was in the late innings the broadcasters ( who i thought were good ) were talking about the Angels and their 100 victories. Then one of them said ..."remember the Sox are the defending World Champions "
If this was the yanks they would be talking non stop about them being champs and blah blah blah.....

That was a good pitch and he just went down , kept his balance and The Distance that it traveled was friggin' unbelievable!
And he hustled down the line on one play !!!! ( of course i was NOT happy about that , because i never remember him hustling like that for the Sox ).

Well I think its appropriate that these two teams square off to decide matters though if Detroit had won the White Sox really would have deserved their early vacation. Unfortunately though I can't see either team beating the Rays. Liriano gives the Twins a fighting chance though. Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative tonight than it was yesterday.
M&M pointed out this morning that the season series counts for nothing in baseball. The Twins won the season series with the ChiSox, 10-8, I believe, yet those 18 games count for nothing and the Twins are forced to play a one-game winner take all game ... at Chicago (because of a coin flip!)?
Doesn't seem fair to the Twinkies. If you're tied atop the division with another team but you won the season series against that team, you win the division. makes sense. Why is it different for the wild card?
They have a point.
Its different because only one playoff spot is left. Head-to-head record counts only if both teams are heading to the playoffs regardless; its for seeding purposes as well as "bragging rights". Do you really think that a spot in the playoffs should be determined by season series rather than on the field?
And as far as the coin flip goes, do you have a better method? How about "choose a number from 1 to 100, the closest without going over wins"?
I got one , why dont they take 2 players at home base and one runs towards first and the other towards 3rd and whoever reaches home first wins !!!!

He hurt his oblique Friday in a side session and the Sox took a page out of Belichicks playbook and kept quiet.

This Yankee fan is rooting hard for the Rays. Anyone know if and when Carl Crawford is coming back? Carlos Pena et al have really picked it up in his absence but it would be really nice to see CC back in the lineup because he is their best all around player IMO.

To do that, Beckett better pitch a helluva lot better than he did in Monday's game when they could have clinched.
One potential advantage over 2005 is that Tito can set up the rotation better than he did the last time we tried to defend a title. But we've got to get healthy, fast. The offense has really settled into a funk without Lowell and Drew, and I wonder what Lowell will do when he does play again, and no one knows when Drew's back will lock up again.
Yea, but you gotta love Beckett when it comes to playoff time . If he pitches any way close to what he did in the playoffs last year we will have a huge shot at getting back to the Series.

Set up a saved search for "Art Pepper Complete Galaxy" at eBay to email you whenever one gets listed. You can save up to 100 searches this way. It took me about three years of getting outbid, but I finally got a near-mint copy of the Pepper set there recently for about $85 including shipping.
There was some guy that appeared to have an endless supply of this set on eBay a while back, as he continually listed one copy after another for months on end. I figured it was too good to be true, but although his feedback was mixed (many happy buyers, but also quite a few people saying "lost in the mail but seller issued refund"), he did have multiple feedback entries from various bidders who appeared to have actually received copies. I finally bid on one and won it at a pretty reasonable price, but after two months and no Art in sight, sure enough the seller claimed it was lost in the mail and refunded my money.
Yeah , I know this seller i won this box for about $120 . Never Saw it ...waited a couple weeks.... nothing , contacted the guy he wouldn't respond , put in a complaint to Paypal and received an email from him within an hour.
Then without asking he refunded my money and emailed me saying he did mail it out and when i received it to please
paypal him back.
Needless to say i never received the box .....................still waiting

Last night on the news they said that in March a barrel of oil was $102 and the price at the pump was $3.13
now a barrel of oil has dropped to $101 and the price here in Mass. is $3.55 ???????

I don't think the Cubs are going anywhere , they looked flat yesterday . Also i don't care what anyone says
BUT the Manager in baseball matters in the playoffs and Torre will out manage Piniella , who is the most overated
manager in the game !
Manny Matters .....he is that good , i still don't understand why he is running hard down the first base line, he never did that in 8 years here in Boston .....he never ran that hard !
