  1. I picked up this dvd box set with the 40% off for $37.00

Preston Sturges - The Filmmaker Collection (Sullivan's Travels/The Lady Eve/The Palm Beach Story/Hail the Conquering Hero/The Great McGinty/Christmas in July/The Great Moment)

  2. Well if Sox-Indians is a preview of the ALCS as some commentators have said, we're in for a doozy of a series based on the first game. Schilling had a major bounce back game, 1 run on six hits in seven innings with ten K's, Youklis actually hit an inside the park homer (can't wait for the highlights on Baseball Tonite) and the suddenly super hot Dustin Pedroia went three for three with two doubles and sparked a two out rally in the eighth to give Papelbon a three run lead to close. Dustin is hitting .298 after being around .170 a month ago.

Then it got scary. Walk. Double. Double. Second and third, no one out, 5-3.:crazy::excited:

Then Paps went pop out, strikeout, strikeout, and all was right with the world.

20 games over .500. 11 1/2 game lead over the O's, 12 over the Blue Jays, 13 1/2 over the Yanks, who fall into a tie for last place with the D-Rays after they staged a two run walk-off rally off of Todd Jones.

See Tribe fans? Its not such a big deal taking a loss today. No change in the Central standings. :)

They just showed Clemens on baseball tonight and he was limping off the mound after the first.

he looked gassed after 6 innings and the guys on espn were wondering if the yanks might try and get out of the deal ?

That was ME that said Clemens limped off the mound and if you go back to that start he did pitch 5 innings

more BUT threw a lot of breaking pitches and only hit 89/90 on his fastball !!!

Something was wrong and Joe Buck said he could miss the next 2 weeks of course Torre

pleaded ignorance about the time . But you have to figure he might miss more than 1 start.

  3. The Beatles did not call their album Abbey Road for nothing: it was the crucible of their art. The studio, a tourist shrine, was eerily quiet when I strolled past yesterday; it is locally rumoured to be up for development sale as soon as the parent company’s fate is settled.

"development sale"???? WTF?? Are they going to raze it for condos???

I was told that they don't give tours of Abbey Road studios is that correct ?

  4. Another pretty exciting game in Fenway last night. Regardless of whether the Indians pitching lined up right, the performance of Schilling and Beckett to shut them down was extremely impressive, especially when you consider that Schilling had stunk or been mediocre for several starts in a row but suddenly regained his split from "'97-'98" with a couple of mechanical adjustments, and then Beckett comes off the DL after another finger problem and allows one hit through 6 innings before giving up a couple in the 7th.

If those two guys are back and dealing, I could see this team ripping through interleague play, simply because against the NL West, those offenses won't be able to do much at all, while the Sox offense will squeak out the runs needed. Yes, even against the Great Peavy. :g

And don't forget, the Sox go for the sweep tonite with Dice-K against Byrd, 7 PM on ESPN.

and a 14 and a half game lead on the yankees !!!!!

  6. Conrad, I surely empathize with you, but with Beckett going on the DL and several critical series coming up, I'll take all the luck we can get starting now. I was impressed with the two rookies that are going (I am assuming its Devern Hansack, who was a lobster fisherman in Nicaragua when they signed him a year ago, and Kason Gabbard, a lefty who figured out in his call up last year that if he throws strikes he can be successful). We still get to face your two aces though, so its not really a good combination even if Atlanta usually stinks against unknown pitchers.

28-12 best record in baseball !!!!........i don't know about Hansack saw him pitch against the Blue Jays and he was shaky at best. Maybe that was his first appearance in a big league game ? it was a 9-1 lead and he couldn't throw strikes how hard is it to pitch with a 9-1 lead ?

  7. Well, Andruw has certainly been considered as a replacement for Manny as protection in the lineup for Papi. But having Jacoby Ellsbury in AAA makes it really hard to imagine how we fit Andruw into the outfield, even if he were swinging great. My strong suspicion is that the Yankees will go very hard for him, with the plan of moving Damon to first base next season (or maybe they don't pick up Abreu's option and put Andruw in RF and leave Damon in center). But I think the Yankees are coming to realize that Damon's playing style is catching up to his age and that they will see continuing diminishing returns running him out to CF as often as possible. He's already spoken about moving to 1B in the future, I think the Yanks may recognize that time is now. It would certainly help to solve the productivity problem at 1B.

In the meantime, I really wonder what the Sox will do to protect Ortiz, but maybe, since this is now the "Era of Good Feelings" between Manny and Boston, they'll end up picking up his option years and keep him for three more seasons. Certainly those option years have started to look much more reasonable than they were when he signed originally.

No Way will they pick up Mannys options i still think they will try to trade him in the offseason. The protection

for papi could be A-Rod . The Sox wouldn't trade for Andruw Jones isn't he a free agent at seasons end?

Gee i can't imagine Damon at first never thought of that !

  8. Conrad,

I think everyone has a single interleague series this weekend, the so-called "traditional rivalries" series. Now, Mets-Yankees, Cubs-White Sox and a few others make sense, but there is no rivalry between Boston and Atlanta just because the Braves started out (a long, LONG time ago) in Boston. But I am glad that we won't face Smoltz, apparently. I'd be happy to get Redman and someone else plus Tim Hudson. At least two of the games are on TBS.

As for the balance of inter-league schedule, everyone goes into it later on in June for however many games it is.

Well Dan my dad loves when the Braves come to town even though he has always been a Red Sox fan he used to go see the Braves play at Braves field . So i think for some it may be a nostalgic weekend.

I think Braves field was the largest ballpark back in the day

  9. "If you think it's about money, you're greatly mistaken. I'm not going to put my body through the paces I put my body through to earn a few more dollars," Clemens said at a charity golf tournament.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

this is the funniest quote a FEW more dollars ???.....it's 28 million !!!!!!
