  1. Thank you. I hadn't seen either of those books. That's interesting to know that the album was appearing in lists before Lord. @sonnymax Yes, I've been in touch with Dan. He motivated me to write this up so all of the information was collected somewhere.
  2. I know there's a few Transition fans here, so I thought I'd share an article I wrote about the search for Jay Migliori's lost album for the label: https://medium.com/the-shadow-knows/searching-for-jazz-down-beat-jay-migliori-s-lost-album-50bcbdd56363 The short version is that I tried and failed to get in contact with Jay's widow or daughter to ask about the LP. I also contacted two labels who have issued other unreleased albums by Jay and they knew nothing about the Transition session. What I do know is the following: Group: Jay Migliori Quartet featuring Migliori (tenor sax), Tommy Ball (trumpet), Danny Kent (piano), Paul Morrison (bass), and Floyd Williams (drums). Recorded: 7 November 1955 in Boston Catalogue number: TRLP-18 Title: Jazz Down Beat Tracks: Bags’ Groove The First One Pat and the Lady Black Dog Let Yourself Go Budo Button for Butch Something’s Gotta Give The final track was released on the compilation album Jazz In Transition (TRLP-30). All of the information about the recording come from the TRLP-30 booklet.
  3. Yeah, I meant standard in comparison to the artisanal editions, but I see they're being listed as Deluxe Editions. I guess because they come with the booklet. Byrd Jazz is available too.
  4. For anyone who didn't grab these, Sam Records is reissuing them as standard versions. The Sam website is down, but you can order them here (and probably elsewhere): https://www.soundohm.com/label/sam-records
  5. It looks like the Sam Records website has crashed. I can't access it. Anyone else have this issue? Edit: I got one page to work eventually, but it still has issues. There's 420 copies of Vol 1 in stock right now. 110 € each.
  6. That's fair. There's a lot of Sun Ra to wade through right now. But I'd still like to hear all of that Transition acetate @romualdo linked since it has some other Transition artists on it too. It seems unlikely it will ever get an official release for that reason though.
  7. I'd really like to hear the Dave Coleman track from that acetate more so than the Sun Ra tracks. Does anyone still have the sample from the auction? Has a proper tracklisting of that acetate ever been released? I think some of it has seen release, possibly Eve from this compilation as it's from this era according to the description, but I'm not sure. Maybe some on the CD Transitions 1: Spaceship Bop (1955-57)? I know there's mp3s of a Sun Ra Transition acetate, but the source isn't clear. In Tom Lord's jazz book the session includes the following (bold indicates unreleased, though these ones are the mp3s floating around): Maybe there were some more?
  8. Available Feb 1, Sam Records is reissuing Sun Ra's first album on Transition, along with a matching volume 2 that was intended for Transition but eventually released by Delmark instead. It's limited to 500 copies, but I don't believe it contains anything that isn't already available elsewhere apart from the matching artwork. There's some previews of how it looks on Instagram now. https://www.instagram.com/p/DFA0eh9O7Ay/ https://www.instagram.com/p/DE5lEjMvaTw/
  9. Does anyone still have the audio from the listings for this acetate? The original listing had three samples, and they don't appear anywhere else that I can see. I'd be very keen to hear them if possible, especially the Coleman and Gordon samples. As an aside, this blog post from 2012 mentioned Michael D. Anderson was producing a Sun Ra compilation "The Complete Transition Recordings (2) CD’s (2) recording sessions (w/lots of unreleased recordings)", which I don't think ever came out. I wonder if it would have included similar outtakes as on this acetate.
  10. Sorry to revive such an old thread, but do you recall whether there were other unissued albums on that list? There were quite a few albums listed in the Transition booklets and brochures that never came out, and I'm curious if they even existed. I made a discography listing them all here.
  11. Did you ever get a copy of this? I was looking for the article too. I saw a partial scan that suggests there was a Transition article in Metronome Magazine April 1956 page 9, but haven't seen a full scan of the article yet.
