  1. Springsteen has as much right as anyone to undertake this material - and more right than most popular performers.

Though I admit that he was the only one who looked to be having any fun playing in that video clip...

  2. I've been digging a bit - o' Mr. Lateef lately myself for some reason. Have been into "Centaur & the Phoenix," "Three Faces Of...," and "Eastern Sounds." Very hip "vibes" from this music - then again, a lot of GREAT tenor jam too! Hugh Lawson is also a damn fine pianist to have accompany you! :)

Those are all terrific albums - I like all the stuff that OJC has put out, and Live a t Pep's on Impulse! is amazing.

  3. I didn't even know about this... I was over on another forum that I frequent (about geeky audio-recording stuff) and someone posted about it.

    Best Jazz Artist/Band: Organissimo

This jazz combo likes to dip into a bit of the funky stuff, as well. A B3 Hammond puts the organ in Organissimo. What other local jazz group writes their own material as well as interprets out-there stuff like Frank Zappa’s “Peaches En Regalia?” No one but Organissimo, and that’s why these guys take our cake.

    Wacky!

    Congrats, Jim, Randy, and Joe!

  4. Stuff on the Sonny Rollins Prestige box apart, I own nothing led by Miles. Nor any Stan Getz.

Not by design, nor because I'm rabidly 'anti' either, but they're pretty egregious omissions.

On which note, anyone without any Tatum should be shot ;)

Got it - some of the solo and group masterpieces on Pablo, and some of the solo stuff on Columbia (whew!)

    Now about that Miles... :rcry

  5. I mix up Gary Peacock, Paul Motian and Paul Bley. It's a good thing the latter two started playing with Charlie Haden at some point.

    Guy

Yeah, but Bley,Motian and Peacock would make a great trio. Or have they already?

Or was that Bley, Motian and Swallow...?

  6. Thanks guys for all the feedback and the opinions, One more thing I forgot to ask.
