A very nice record and some of the tunes from "My Fair Lady", "Paint my wagon" and so on cannot be heard often by a jazz combo. Great line of the 57 edition of the Messengers with Griff and Bill Hardman.
I bought this RCA "Black and White" Series in spring 1978 and still have it in good shape. A beautiful thing.
Once I met Bill Hardman and told him that the first time I heard his trumpet was on this "Messengers play Lerner and Lowe" and he said "yeah, I remember that date" .
A favourite of mine.

I bought this in Amsterdam around 25 years ago. I've never seen another copy.

More from this magnificent run of Shorter Blue Notes.

Magnificent Shorter. I have a slight preference for Speak No Evil despite one or two minor distractions from Freddie Hubbard..

It has moments of incredible intensity, balanced with lyrical passages and some pretty funny musical satire.
Thanks or the comment Jeff. My memory has failed me completely here. Well worth pulling out. But then this board is great for this sort of thing. I've pulled out dozens of recordings inspired by this topic over the years which would otherwise still be languishing on my shelves unplayed for goodness knows how long.

The Jazz Couriers With Ronnie Scott And Tubby Hayes – In Concert (Music For Pleasure, 1958)
I was at this February 1958 concert at the Dominion Theatre London. The Couriers were the support band for the Dave Brubeck Quartet. My first jazz concert.

Art Ensemble of Chicago - Live (aka Live at Mandel Hall) (Delmark)
One to dig out. IIRC think I found it a bit intense but I must have found it a keeper as I recall replacing the vinyl with the cd at the first opportunity.

Love this one. One of the first records I bought back in the 50s.

Superb.
That looks like an interesting archival release, Justin. What do you think of it?
