  1. I should have known you'd come to this thread and promote Decware gear. Sheesh!

    ;)

Agreed. That's a helluvan amp for the money. I just didn't want to take a bunch of crap for recommending a Decware amp again. ;)

:) I love my little C+ more and more each hour. Thank you for "fighting the good fight". I'm very happy. Did you get my PM?

  2. Lon--you'll get no grief from me--you like what you like and evangelize it, what's wrong with that?

Actually, I've been considering a Decware unit, but I'm not ready to go down the tube/super high fidelity road just yet (among other things, Olivia's room is just off the living room where I do the most listening (not particularly conducive to naptime!), and the acoustics aren't that great anyway.

I appreciate the suggestions--keep them coming!

  3. Just picked up an Apt/Holman preamp. Love the sound, love the unit. Works great. But now I need to up the ante on a power amp.

I want to get something used, and have lines on an Apt-1 (apt/holman power amp), Harman Kardon 870, Rotel RB 960-bx, and either an Adcom GFA 535 or 545. You got it--used 70's/80's stuff for under $500.

    Anyone have thoughts/recommendations/something to sell?

    Cheers!

  4. Besides, if someone does a search for those names they can only be found if they are spelt correctly.

I think you mean "spelled correctly".

No doubt you know this, but both are correct.

    Yes yes yes, just funnin'...

  5. What did you think of Now!? That's one of my favorite Hutcherson records. Eugene McDaniels, who led the vocalists on that one, lives in my town...he's a great guy and is still singing and writing music.

Don't want to hijack, but...NO WAY! I had no idea Eugene McDaniels was still alive/active. Outlaw and Headless Heroes are two of my favorite records. Is he still performing regularly? May I ask what "your town" is?

Kittery, Maine, believe it or not. He has been writing some music with a friend of mine, a great pianist named Tom Snow who lives near Portland, Maine. Not performing too much, as far as I know, but he did sit in on one of Tom's gigs recently and sounded amazing as always.

    Here's his new website: http://www.eugenemcdaniels.com/

Yeah, Headless Heroes is brilliant! One of my top 5 albums, ever.

That is terrific news. We'll be up there in July and I'll keep an eye out. Paging Alan Lowe!

  7. 1985--Robert Palmer "Riptide"--got it at a music store on 10th Avenue in Portland, OR across from the main library (folks from PDX will remember the name of the place, which is slipping my mind at the moment).

I also did not have a CD player--but the disc/package was such a cool, novel "object" that I had to have it. CD player came two years later, a Yorx front-loading (tilt-out tray) that I bought at Fred Meyer for fifty bucks. It lasted ten years!

  8. I had a long discussion with my mailman about this yesterday, and he didn't think that the package would ever be found.

I feel your pain, GA. Off topic, but as good a place as any for a rant. I will NEVER use USPS around or anywhere near the holiday season again. Three of my Christmas present packages--all ordered on or near December 1, mind you--WERE NOT DELIVERED UNTIL AFTER 12/27. A third has simply never arrived--"vanished." My mailman said the same thing--and I'll bet. I don't wish to impugn an entire (non)governmental agency, but this year has taught me there's likely more sticky-finger action at the USPS this time of year than others.

I will never have time-sensitive deliveries shipped any way other than FedEx, DHL, or USPS (last resort). Don't trust the USPS as far as I can throw it.

    /rant
