  1. Bev and Dmitry - very interesting lists! Bev would you be so kind to write the names of the bands and records? Some pictures are just to small. Thanks in advance.
  2. Now seriously, what is that HW-19 Jr thing ?
  3. I'm not sure what it is, wait... Ahhhh!.. Does it really improve your love life like it was said in the commercial?
  4. How about Michael Brecker Quindectet - Wide angles?
  5. I'm not a musician but here are some links you can use: 1. http://www.musictheory.net/ - a great resource for theory and excersizes. 2. http://www.cliffengel.com/online_lessons/ - very good lessons for bassists but can be used by anyone else. 3. http://trumpet.voici.org/ - transcriptions of trumpet solos. 4. http://www.cannonball-adderley.com/part2.htm - transcriptions of Cannonball's solos 5. http://www.lucaspickford.com/trans.htm - more transcriptions for different instruments. Enjoy!
  6. O.K. JohnS, I voted for you.
  7. O.K. but who is going to do the dirty job of organizing and keeping the list of future AOTW?
  8. I can't beleive I forgot this one! Jaco Pastorius - Word of mouth ...and this one!
  9. I'll be glad to volunteer too sometime in the next few weeks, if it makes easier for someone my choice will be "This is our music" by Ornette Coleman.
  10. It was. Maybe its time to adopt the BFT signup method to the AOTW? One advantage here might be that people could announce their future picks far enough in advance that people could have plenty of lead time to either give some listening to the album or get it in hand well in time for the discussion. That is an advantage, for example I don't have this week's spontaneously chosen "Silent Tongues". I'm sure I'm missing a good opportunity to study Taylor's music.
  11. What about this guy and his band - Brotherhood of breath? and the thread already started here.
  12. A collaboration between Ray Anderson and George Gruntz.
  13. What about the shoulder tapping? Wasn't that supposed to work that way?
  14. Cause it wrong. No. It is not wrong. Maybe inexact or requires additional information, but not wrong.
  15. I heard there's another album due in 2005. Very good news!
  16. What do all these bands have in common? I think that the answer is: a strong Gil Evans influence.
  17. Another one you will like Martial solal dodecaband plays Ellington
  18. one you forgot to mention
  19. As much as I love the Mingus band and Dave Holland's one time (for now) big project, and with all the respect I have for many of the others mentioned I voted to Maria Schneider. That brings an interesting thought: two of the best band leaders and arrangers today are women (Maria Schneider and Carla Bley). Melba Liston also comes to mind when you talk about arrangers. Why are women such good big band leaders? Does this have anything to do with attributes like patience, frankness and motherhood?
  20. ...and this one I yet don't own but sooner or later ... Heard it many times thanks to White Lightening and it's really great
  21. Another record I'm exploring right now is Paquito D'rivera - Big Band time (2003)
  22. Tom Harrell's - Time's mirror is a very interesting and enjoyable big band recording. Recorded in 1999 with Harrell's arrangments and players like: Conrad Herwig Alex Foster
  23. Not very familiar with the band but heard their recording with Archie Shepp from 1989. It's a live show recorded at a French festival called: En Concert a Banlieues Bleues The music is very good but the quality of recording/sound not so good. The band and Archie most of the time play like they never have heard of these things called free jazz or avant guard. Lots of joy in their playing.
  24. Thanks. Are there any recommendations for his records?
