AmirBagachelles Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 I am enjoying the Mongezi Feza discs on Ayler, though the sound is not great (live date from two mics, some clipping on the low end). Can anybody give an account of the two Brotherhood of Breath discs? Quote
Joe Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Studio or live dates? Have picked up the recent FROM BREMEN TO BRIDGEWATER 2-disc set, but, to my embarrassment, have not had a chance to listen to it yet. I have to say that TRAVELLING SOMEWHERE was something of a disappointment for me. The BoB revelled in raggedness, but I found those 1973 performances a little slack. If it is just more Mongezi you want -- and who wouldn't? -- you might try to track down copies of: Dudu Pukwana / Diamond Express (Arista Freedom), aka Ubagile (Jazz Colour) Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath (RCA / Neon) -- I believe DustyGroove has been stocking this... AmirBagachelles Posted May 19, 2004 Author Report Posted May 19, 2004 Thanks Joe, I think that Dudu Pukwana LP is right where I want to go. Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted May 20, 2004 Author Report Posted May 20, 2004 Pukwana has an empty bin at Virgin in the World/Africa section, otherwise no sign of his stuff here in the city. Has anybody come across "In the Townships" recently? Quote
Pete C Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 (edited) Have picked up the recent FROM BREMEN TO BRIDGEWATER 2-disc set, but, to my embarrassment, have not had a chance to listen to it yet. I was just asking someone about that last night and he told me the sound quality was not very good. Live in Wilisau is a killer album, and the sound is very good. downtownmusicgallery.com lists it in stock at $17. Edited May 21, 2004 by Pete C Quote
