BERIGAN Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I always find it interesting to hear someone who clearly was not all that taken with bop, but messed around with some boppish music anyway. Just heard Benny Goodman on a song called Shishkabop , from Undercurrent Blues...Very interesting! I have liked some of the Dizzy Gillespie songs Jimmy Dorsey did as well, any others??? Quote
jlhoots Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Coleman Hawkins - although I'm not sure it's fair to say he wasn't interested in bop. Quote
Spontooneous Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Interesting question. Does Don Byas count? Sid Catlett doesn't do a single bit of damage on that 1945 Dizzy and Bird date. And wouldn't we love to have a recording of the Earl Hines bands with Dizzy and Bird and Sass? But surely the champ in this category is Woody Herman, who did a lot more than mess around with bop, to say the least. Quote
BruceH Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 The recently deceased Benny Carter adjusted to bop magnificently I think. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 Mr Richardson? If he had to go "splat" anywhere, I glad it was in my home state. B) Quote
