On Aug. 3 there will be a new Frank Morgan CD on High Note.

George Cables, Curtis Lundy & Billy Hart are the supporting trio.

I'm hopeful this will be good.

I saw him recently playing duets with Cyrus Chesnut.

Frank played very well.

UP, cause this CD is flat out terrific!

Morgan may come straight out of Bird, but I just love his tone, so expressive, soulful and personal. Great tunes on this, too: two Monks, two Coltranes, and an excellent cover of "All Blues".

I'd heard when Morgan had a stroke a couple or so ago, but I was surprised to learn in the liners that he actually was gigging again about six months after. Clearly, his playing has not suffered the way OP's playing did after his stroke, and I really can't recommend this set enough, to Morgan fans, or anyone wanting to check him out.

I saw this at my local Borders (which otherwise has a pretty sucky jazz section) and was interested if for no other reason than it's a chance to hear Cables with other world class musicians. It looked promising, and now it seems I have more reason to grab it! Thanks for the heads up.

I got this and it's very good. I'm into my second listen. His rendition of Equinox is outstanding, almost Trane like without being slavish. Cherokee is my favorite of the bunch. George Cables: some very good solos here.

Frank's going to be playing at The Outpost in Albuquerque next week in a group with George Cables, Cecil McBee & Leroy Williams.

Looking forward to it.

This turned out to be an excellent show.
