RonF Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Boz has a new cd, But Beautiful: Standards Volume One. I have to say, I don't find this that offensive. Paul Nagel is the pianist and arranger and the one who urged Boz to record these songs. Boz's voice has a surprisingly easy way of blending with this music - he's not trying to be hip or cool - just delivering the lyrics with feeling. The band keeps it solid and straight ahead. Not bad. Better than background music and a helluva lot better than Elvis Costello. Quote
kenny weir Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Haven't heard this one, but I remain a big fan of two of his pre-Silk Degrees albums - My Time ('72) and Moments ('71), both excellently sung and played blue-eyed soul stuff. My Time has more of an R&B Muscle Shoals feel, while Moments has more of a jazzy feel ( and players such as Pete Escovedo, Mel Martin, Coke Escovedo, Bill Atwood, Curley Cook, John McFee, George Rains and Ben Sidran). The last track on Moments is Can I Make It Last (Or Will It Just Be Over) is an orchestrated instrumental that is just gorgeous. Quote
kenny weir Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 And I'd say it's a VERY safe bet this new project is heaps better than another, similar recent release. Quote

JSngry Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Comparisons of Boz' loose, bluesey/jazzy vocal phrasing in even his most blatantly pop outings to, dare I say it, Norah Jones' might prove instructive (or not...). I think it's a Texas thing. GOT to be a Texas thing. Y'all DO remember that Boz is a Texas boy, doncha? :D Quote
Tjazz Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 And I'd say it's a VERY safe bet this new project is heaps better than another, similar recent release. Does that mean it won't sell as well as Rod? If jazz fans like it, will it be a low seller? Rod sold pretty well. I think he's gonna do another standards type album. I like Boz, so I'll probably get it now matter what. Quote
catesta Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 God, where did you find that photo? He probably ripped it off your notebook while in 2nd period algebra class. Quote

No doubt about it in my mind. Please don't tell me that Rod Stewart is going to do another standards cd.Hasn't the world suffered enough? Quote
