Boz has a new cd, But Beautiful: Standards Volume One. I have to say, I don't find this that offensive. Paul Nagel is the pianist and arranger and the one who urged Boz to record these songs. Boz's voice has a surprisingly easy way of blending with this music - he's not trying to be hip or cool - just delivering the lyrics with feeling. The band keeps it solid and straight ahead. Not bad. Better than background music and a helluva lot better than Elvis Costello.

Haven't heard this one, but I remain a big fan of two of his pre-Silk Degrees albums - My Time ('72) and Moments ('71), both excellently sung and played blue-eyed soul stuff.

My Time has more of an R&B Muscle Shoals feel, while Moments has more of a jazzy feel ( and players such as Pete Escovedo, Mel Martin, Coke Escovedo, Bill Atwood, Curley Cook, John McFee, George Rains and Ben Sidran).

The last track on Moments is Can I Make It Last (Or Will It Just Be Over) is an orchestrated instrumental that is just gorgeous.

And I'd say it's a VERY safe bet this new project is heaps better than another, similar recent release.

Most definitely!

God, where did you find that photo?:blink:

Comparisons of Boz' loose, bluesey/jazzy vocal phrasing in even his most blatantly pop outings to, dare I say it, Norah Jones' might prove instructive (or not...). I think it's a Texas thing. GOT to be a Texas thing.

Y'all DO remember that Boz is a Texas boy, doncha? :D :D :D

Does that mean it won't sell as well as Rod?

If jazz fans like it, will it be a low seller?

Rod sold pretty well. I think he's gonna do another standards type album.

I like Boz, so I'll probably get it now matter what. :g
