trane_fanatic
Who saw this last night on PBS? Great stuff. Think the DVD comes out today. http://www.pbs.org/pov/pov2004/wattstax/index.html http://www.wattstax.com
Big Al
It’s being shown tonight down here. I’ve already reserved the TV for this one!
Christiern
Excellent nostalgia trip, it makes one wonder how black pop music could have deteriorated so much in 30 years. BTW, there is also a CD
AmirBagachelles
I loved the show last night, its a great reminder of this country's steady betrayal of the urban poor and the cities, as well as a movie with fine music. I see the Isaac Hayes was released to CD some time ago, looks tempting.
maren
This was beautiful -- just like so many of the people in the film said when asked to describe the concert: "Beautiful!"
Shawn
This just came on, but unfortunately I can't stay up to watch it. Will have to check out the DVD at some point.
Big Al
This just came on, but unfortunately I can't stay up to watch it. Will have to check out the DVD at some point. Yeah, I only got to catch glimpses of it; this was a night where my son was struggling with homework. Ah well, at least the DVD won't have anything bleeped out! JSngry
The Rufus Thomas segment should be required viewing across America. Hell, the whole movie should be. Beautiful says it all, about it all.

Quincy
We must have been very very bad in Oregon, as the station out of Portland last night had some show featuring Tony Orlando and Debby Boone. After that was "Cliff Richard: The World Tour." Tonight it's "Yanni In Concert: Live at the Acropolis." Sheeeeesh, what did we do to deserve this? Nothing came up on a search at OPB's website either. Maybe we're being punished for not donating enough.

Maybe we're being punished for not donating enough. Maybe they got the wrong tapes; perhaps they got Texas's tapes by mistake and vice versa. That's usually the kind of garbage we Texans are subjected to on a regular basis.
JSngry
Our local NPR affiliate preceded WATTSTAX w/a thing called "John Lennon's Jukebox", or something like that. I guess Lennon had a portable jukebox that he carried around, and the show was a look at what records were on it (lots of R&B), and intervies with those artists (as much as possible). I only caught the last half of it, but it was cool, if slight. Great performance footage, and cool interviews w/Steve Cropper & John Sebastian. But WATTSTAX, my god, what a great movie, and not just for the music. LEAST of all for the music, in fact. And the music was beautiful! The DVD WILL be mine! BTW - I recognized Ted Lange, but was Jayne Cortez also amongst the interviwees? I thought I recognized her by her voice.

ajf67
Richard Pryor was at the top of his game here. Absolutely. He was a highlight for me. Totally "on," and showing what a tremendous talent he was.
