jazzhound Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 where all New Jazz label covers laminated? I just got a Meet Oliver Nelson lp in the mail and was disappointed that it wasn't laminated like other lps I have in the 8200's such as The Cats and Cracklin. Maybe only the first pressings were and later on they dropped the lamination. Quote
Jim R Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Seems like I had (and saw) more that were not laminated. Not sure there's any rhyme/reason to it, but the idea that the earlier releases were laminated seems plausible. Anyway, I can understand your disappointment, for sure. A laminated LP cover is so much more attractive (unless it's got an air bubble, or one of those Emarcy's that's turned all foggy ). Quote
brownie Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Some New Jazz had laminated covers, others had non-laminated covers. I have pulled out some of the Eric Dolphy originals I bought when they came out: - Out There (NJ 8252) has laminated cover, - At The Five Spot (NJ 8260) has laminated cover, - Far Cry (NJ 8270) has non-laminated cover. No clear pattern there! Quote
wolff Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 I have all of one original with a cool laminated cover that I bought used, long after it had been released. Got rid of 2 originals that had plain covers. Second pressings were probably Trident logo reissues, but I do not know about their covers. Possibly, totally different. The other cool laminated covers are some of the Bluesville, Moodsville and Swingville covers. I know the Moodsville's and Swingville's came plain, also. At least all my OJC/New Jazz titles have glossy covers. Quote
