Can someone recommend a PC based software to copy music? I have some shows I had recorded back in the 70’s and 80’s on cassettes, which I want to convert to CDR’s. When I copy them down to my hard drive and burn them to CDR’s, the quality diminishes. In some cases, the drums over power all other instruments. But when listening from the source tape, the music sounds just fine. It could be a generation drop off when making copies from audio to digital, but not too sure.

With a decent sound card and a correct connection of the tape deck to the card, there should not be a significant change in sound.

The software will not change the sound unless you have activated some filters by accident. A better recording software will only offer more usage options, but not improve the sound.
