I have some Prestige original pressings, some of them have Bergenfield, NJ address on label, other have W. 50th St. . On Goldmine different Prestige label appears to be both first pressing, but they have different quotations. Does it depends on rarity or different quality pressing?

The Prestige LPs with the New York adress tend to be more valuable because the W. 50th St. adress in New York was the original location of the company. Prestige moved its offices to Bergenfield, N.J., in 1957.

Recording and mastering were all done by Rudy Van Gelder.

Prestige albums from the 7000 series until 7140 were originally issued with the NY adress. The Prestige LPs from this era with the Bergenfield label are second pressings.

Original Prestige LPs beyond 7140 were issued with the Bergenfield adress.

More details about the early days of Prestige are on this site:

the pressings do sound different also.

Does NYC label sound much better than NJ? Different pressing plants?

I presume they sound different because the NYC are first pressing, but after n. 7140 the NJ were first pressing.

the new jersey pressings sound fatter and a little compressed compared t0 the New york versions. I have noticed this pretty consistantly. I like the New York cause they sound more natural like the early Contemporary records. Lots of air.
