vajerzy Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Happy Holidays!! I sold a Jacquet set on Ebay and the buyer received the set and asked this question: "A question though,in your offer you state they were bought directly from Mosaic, however, the number four cd is stamped BMG Direct. How is that. Thanks." Now I noticed this when I received the set but didn't pay it no mind..... Can anyone shed light on this?? Are your sets like this? Thanks!! Mike Quote
Ed S Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Many of the Mosaic CDs have additional company names like Verve Music Group or SONY direct markets or Rhino or whoever they are leasing from. I'm guessing that the material on that disc was leased from BMG and that BMG Direct is the arm of that company that handles licensing arrangements. I don't think at all that it means that the disc was manufactured by the BMG Music Club or for them. Why don't you give Mosaic a call or email? Quote
DrJ Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 (edited) Can I use this opportunity to ask a related question: why does it matter whether BMG music group did or didn't manufacture a CD? I'm not asking related to Mosaic sets (where I can understand people would care based on collectability/resale value alone), but for regular old CDs. I have many BMG music club discs that I have purchased at very good prices used (and a few I purchased new, when I joined briefly to get a boatload of CDs for their introductory price) and they all sound great to me...have people had quality issues? Ed S Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 I've got lots of club discs as well and have had no issues. I've always wondered what the stigma was. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 First of all, the licensing issue is correct. Part of the license with BMG would stipulate the labeling. All Mosaics will have this marking. Next, EMI manufactures BMG club Blue Notes, Universal manufactures Verves for BMG, Sony manufactures Legacy releases for BMG, etc. Labeling is the only difference in the discs. Quote
Craig23 Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Mine is like that also. You may want to forward a link to this thread to the buyer, to put him/her at ease. Quote
vajerzy Posted December 20, 2004 Author Report Posted December 20, 2004 Thanks for all your responses!! I emailed Mosaic- here is their response: "The 4th CD of the Jacquet set was licensed from BMG and per the contract their imprint appears on the CD pressing." Again- I don't care what they put on the CD- the music is where it's at, but to the uninformed purchaser- I guess he wants to make sure everything is legit- that's fine by me. Mosaic is such a wonderful company.......I wish more companies were like them, with respect to customer service! Everyone be safe the next few weeks!! Thank you again- Mike Quote
