GregK Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I intend to pick up Tribute to Lester, The Meeting or Sirius Calling tomorrow at Borders. I don't have any of their older material (I'm picking from the above three because that's all Borders has), and I'm wondering which of these recent discs I should get first. I do intend to get the Nessa box and other older material eventually, but for now all I have to choose from are the above. Recommendations? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Do not rush into anything. I will let others post and have my say later. Quote
Guest Chaney Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Why buy only what Borders has chosen to stock? Screw Borders. Buy the older stuff NOW and then buy the newer stuff, if you're (still) so inclined. Quote
John B Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I asked for recommendations for the AEC a while back here. To summarize, start early and work your way up. In my opinion, your first purchases should be People In Sorrow/Les Stances A Sophie, Fanfare For The Warriors, Bap-Tizum, Reese And The Smooth Ones and A Jackson in Your House. If you get one of those and enjoy it grab the Nessa box. It is essential listening for fans of the AEC. Chuck did a great job putting the set together and it is limited, and will be out of print at some point in the near future. Enjoy exploring the world of the Art Ensemble! You have some very rewarding and very fun listening ahead of you. Quote

paul secor Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I tend to agree with the other posters - get the earlier recordings first and grab the Nessa box before it's out of print. But - which of the three you listed did you buy? Quote

But - which of the three you listed did you buy? well, actually, I didn't buy anything- I happened to see that they had the Live in Paris 2-disc set from 1969, so I'm going back Tuesday to buy that-and once I can convince my wife that I NEED to get the box set, then I'm going to get that too Quote
