ghost of miles Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Alan's site lists some Fresh Sound releases for Feb. 8. Two of them are JAZZ IN MEXICO 1954--THE LEGENDARY SESSIONS, V. 1 and 2. Any idea what these might be? Quote

Guest ariceffron Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 how did they know about jazz in mexico- were records avail down there etc? Quote
David Ayers Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 About dissemination of jazz in Mexico I have no idea, but I reviewed an academic book about Colombian music by Peter Wade called Music Race and Nation which gave a vivid picture of the role played by popular music and the influence of jazz recordings (and vice versa) in the 30s/40s/50s. There are evidently many stories to be told about jazz in relation to popular recorded music from the 1930s onward in Mexico and Central/South America - I'm sure there is other work on it but I'm not really up on it.
